In the pews . . .

At the service for Elijah Cummings, the camera panned across those attending. I confess to have soured a bit as the lens settled on certain members of congress, wondering why they were there. I won’t bother to name them. But I wonder if they considered whether or not their own eventual passing would elicit such an outpouring of love, if they would be remembered for such things as honor and decency. I hope they did, but they are responsible for my doubts on the matter.
