57 years old. I noticed hospital staff begin to line the hallway so I stood too. He was escorted out by state trooper, firefighter in dress uniform and hospital security. Fire trucks were waiting to escort him to the funeral home. RIP sir.
Edited to say that the deceased was a NYC detective who worked sifting through the Trade Center debris after 9/11. I was told he was a firefighter.

I've been weepy since Rep Cumming's funeral services...and then this very sad news.
RIP Sir, and thank you for your service.

I feel honored to have stood there for that firefighter for just a moment. I wouldn't have known who he was but a nurse friend who stopped to say hello told me.
