What struck me the most were the images of the man at the front of the church. There were many and they were all larger than life. Just as he was. His heart and his soul were dedicated to his constituents, the Constitution and the word of law, an America, that he served and protected for decades. He served with love, dedication and righteous anger.
One thing that I read today was that the pResidents words about his district being a rat infested hole hurt him to the core. His wife said that it made his last few months more difficult. I will never forgive him for the pain he caused this great man.
I only was able to see part of the memorial today, yet the pictures moved me. Every speaker stood in front of his very large image. I am not a religious person, yet think somewhere Elijah will be watching and help move us forward which is the correct direction.
Sleep well, Elijah.
He was only a year and a half older than I am.
Hugs back to you.

I am going to miss that man.

(33,349 posts)Mr. Cummings dressing down Homeland Security makes me proud and mad at the same time. He was civil even in his fury at the way children are treated.

He had righteous anger on his side for the children. They just had hate. There is a darkness over this admin and for all our sake it must be broken forever.

(90,714 posts)I've only caught snippets of the eulogies, and all were beautiful, often playing on his Biblical name.
WhenHillary Clinton referred to King Ahab and Queen Jezebel, I laughed as others did.
When Nancy Pelosi said, "He would always find a seat at the table for others," that recalled the Passover feast where a place is set for the Prophet Elijah, and at a certain point in the evening someone opens the door in case he should come in. Then the tears came.
Be comforted. Something else I heard today about his long-standing and unspecified health problems: 25 years ago he was given only 6 months to live. How lucky we all were.
