You can't impeach me -- because I quit.

A shame Trump canceled his subscription. Here’s a perfect impeachment defense.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2019/10/25/shame-trump-canceled-his-subscription-heres-perfect-impeachment-defense/

<<snip>>

Republicans have been complaining that the White House lacks a consistent message on impeachment. The main defense — about the secrecy of the process — will become irrelevant when proceedings become public next month. “It’s hard,” White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham complained on Fox News. “‘It’s like you’re fighting a ghost, you’re fighting against the air.”

Or maybe it’s that there is no good defense.

Really, the problem is the White House has too many messages — and none of them very good. Consider some of the lines Trump and his allies have tried in recent days:

The call was perfect.

The emoluments clause is phony.

Adam Schiff is a corrupt liar.

Adam Schiff is the whistleblower’s secret informant.

Bill Taylor is part of a coordinated smear campaign by radical unelected bureaucrats.

Democrats are an angry pack of rabid hyenas.

What are Democrats hiding in their Soviet-style star chamber?

Human scum!

It’s a coup!

No, it’s a lynching!

No, it’s a witch hunt!

<<snip>>

Trump’s solution to the stream of bad news: He ordered the White House to cancel its subscriptions to those two newspapers.

That’s too bad, because Trump and his aides now won’t be able to read this coherent, straight-from-the-soul message I have developed for him, guaranteed to put an end to impeachment:

I am in way over my head.

I have no idea what’s legal or illegal.

My staff is incompetent.

I wasn’t supposed to win the election.

You can’t impeach me — because I quit.

Somehow it is hard for me to picture him saying that. Every single day with his crazy words and crazier actions it is another set of two words he wants to say to us and it starts with an F.

It would accomplish two things - he would avoid impeachment; and by quitting, he could be a martyr and say how the bad people drove a perfect, the greatest, etc, president out office.

He could blame other people as he always does. It would save face for him, and we would be rid of him.

Because Trump knows if he does quit, the state of New York is going to arrest him for Tax and Real Estate fraud, as well as other abuses committed by the Trump Org.

I would love it he would quit and move to another country. I just don't want to see him, hear from him or hear about him ever again. If we could exile him, I would happily forgive his crimes if he would just go away forever. I just want him gone and silent. No twitter, no media. Nothing.

Immense, and most likely permanent, damage has been done to the nation.
And, there is more to come. It's going to get really ugly over the next 3 months.

Russia went through a self-destruct cycle that broke up the Soviet Union. Russia still exists, and is still very dangerous as we have and still are seeing. But they were greatly diminished.
We are now going through a similar self-destruct cycle.
I shudder to think what the future holds for us as a nation.

Trump will never resign. The more press coverage he gets, the more he thrives on it. He will do WHATEVER IT TAKES to maintain his hold on being in the spotlight. The mentality he uses is like a reality show -- RATINGS ARE EVERYTHING. He has no morality or ethics, and he treats the legal system as his way of screwing over people to his benefit. Then he ignores the legal system when it tells him to do something. This is going to end very badly -- and anyone thinking otherwise is sadly delusional. He will unleash his idiot followers or do something even more destabilizing to the world than Syria. Our military leaders are going to be torn about whether to follow orders, or do what is right for the country.

we can't forget that trump's motto of "even the bad press is good publicity" only works if he's making money. He's only going to continue to make money as long as the people giving it to him think it's buying them something. Once he's impeached, and therefore mostly neutered, they will see no benefit to buying his favor any longer.

approaching sh*t storm of public hearings followed by a public impeachment procedure. So they are trying anything they can think of to slow the avalanche of devastating testimony. Even tRump knows that once that mudslide runs over him he won’t be able to BS his way much longer. If he knew history (and there is no evidence he does), he’d know the final nail in Nixon’s coffin was the very public testimony about his (and other’s) misdeeds and crimes. His base can only take so much before the weight of the evidence causes them to break with their hero. Of course, some will stay to the bitter end, just as they did with Nixon. But the solid core will dissolve.

tRump is literally between a rock and a hard place. There are no good solutions that will allow him to escape what is coming to him. And that doesn’t even factor in the pressures he faces from Putin. He knows (or should know) that once Putin no longer needs him — the future looks grim for a guy like tRump who knows too much.

So more erratic behavior and outrageous hyperbole is to be expected from tRump. He is quite literally a cornered viper. In other words, we will see more of the same behavior until he is hounded out of office or legally removed by impeachment.

Hasten the day we are rid of him. The future of the USA truly is at stake. And remember: we are eye witness to probably the biggest scandal ever to hit this nation in its entire history.
