Seems that at one time, in days of old, there was a god that used to smite the evil.
Maybe it was a myth. Or maybe the evil were actually smitten. Who knows?
Whatever. Looks to me like smiting is not a penalty for being a horrid piece of shit.
Is this kind of thing open to popular opinion? Can some great sky wizard be coaxed into doing that smiting thing?
Maybe, if all of us got together and held a worldwide demonstration, do you think that smiter of old might help out humanity and do some smiting where smiting is badly needed?
Or was it all a myth after all?

(11,594 posts)...or perhaps one of the gazillions of 2nd Amendment worshipers who claimed they needed their "arms" to fight tyranny actually figured out what tyranny meant.

(146,320 posts)actually happened as written. Myths are believed to be true until they are not.
It's notable that there is also no evidence that any deities capable of doing all that smiting exist, either.
I dismissed all of that as myth over 50 years ago.

(21,108 posts)I'm with you.
For example, yesterday there were 6 tornado's in southern Alabama. I was right in the middle of one of them. Thank goodness, no one was killed. But afterwards, everyone was thanking God for that fact. Wait just a minute. If you believe that, then who was it that "sent" the tornado's? Why didn't God stop them before they screwed up all those people's homes by destroying them? And if your answer is "the devil" then why does the devil have more authority over the weather than God?
It's all so ridiculous, I just shake my head in disbelief.

(15,043 posts)On a more serious note, the Robert Street Bridge in MN might be one of the multiple roads that lead humans' to a higher level of the knowledge/awareness of the universe.

(21,108 posts)your atoms will exist forever. Or at least for a long, long time.
Atoms are the building blocks of matter. They, quite literally, make our universe what it is. When we die, our bodies do not turn into nothing; rather, they are broken down into their constituent parts and recycled into the ecosystem. In short, our atoms go on long after we are gone.
