It's time to retire the "Are you better off then you were 4 years ago" stupidity.

It was a good line and Reagan used it very well in 1980.

But really, how I have been doing in 1992, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008 and 2012 has had nothing to do with anything Bush, Clinton, Bush, or Obama has done or didn't do.

Will you be better off? I will definitely be better off if Obama is reelected. I am in college right now. I depend on student loans and pell grants to get by. I can't afford cuts to any of these programs and continue in school. I will have my first degree in December. I will be then going on to a four year college.

My youngest daughter has asthma. She will be able to stay on her dad's insurance until she is 26. She is also in college and will have a degree in two years and will be transferring to a four year college. She is trying to do this on a part time job. I have told her it would probably be better if she goes with grants and loans, but I will let her figure that out. In any case she can't afford insurance, not even the most basic. So, getting that insurance through her dad is what is allowing her to go to college.

A friend of mine is looking forward to the day he can marry his long term boy friend they have been together for a couple of decades. I want to go to the wedding.

We are experiencing the first wave of climate change. Not enough is being done at the moment. But, even less will be done with the Rs in charge.

Across the nation republicans are passing and or trying to pass measures that put a great burden on women who seek family planning services. The only way to turn back that trend is to have pro choice people in office. If I didn't mention this before I have three daughters all of them are in that child bearing age range. If I didn't have a tubal, I would still be in that range.

The way I see it the only thing standing between me living in a house and living in a car is Democrats. This is quite literal except for the part where I can't afford a car. Which is another thing. I rely on public transportation. Republicans have a nasty habit of trying to get rid of anything that helps poor people.

Any fair-minded person will understand that the economy was in freefall when Obama was elected, and that it took him and his team months just to stop the decline, and that we're still climbing our way out. But if they aren't happy with the pace of the recovery, agree with them, but warn them that Romney wants to return to the policies that caused the crash in the first place. Rather than a topic to avoid, this question about "are you better off" could be turned into an opportunity - a "teachable moment," as one very famous and well-respected person used to say.

If they are unfair-minded, well, they were probably never going to vote for Obama anyway.

and I'm from Michigan, and here the answer is a resounding yes. Of course there are people still struggling - lots of them - and I hope there continues to be improvement. But the area where I live in was a scary place four years ago. People were losing their jobs at a really frightening pace. I'd hear about someone losing their job day after day after day. And on top of that, housing prices dove way down. So people had to move away to find a job, and took massive hits on their houses.

I think the question when thought of in a more general way is a good one, but specific people have such varied and specific circumstances that it isn't always going to have a good answer when asked in that way.

I'm ever so much happier since the fascists left the White House. DEFINITELY better off when it comes to threats to my freedoms as a woman.

On September 15th, 4 years ago, George W Bush and Henry Paulson broke the news that our entire capitalist system was under threat of collapse. They needed $700,000,000,000 dollars immediately.

The stock market was dropping like a rock. People were losing their 401K's and life-savings rapidly. Businesses were laying off 750,000 employees a month. Republicans did not know whether to shit or go blind?

And they ask if we were better off 4 years ago??

Are you fucking kidding me?
