My guess is that she told him that they were going to boo him and he argued with her saying that after killing the head of ISIS he would be mostly cheered. They argued.

Now look at the clip again and see how the louder they boo the more Melania laughs and claps, she is getting a big kick out of it.

Trump in the meantime becomes redder and more surly, I believe because he is doubly embarassed, in front of the country and in front of his wife who is clearly relishing his embarrassment.

She might be subconsciously trying to "drown out the boos" with her clapping. Or it's nervous clapping. It's a short clip.
