...But the best thing they could do, if they wish to survive, is to cut their losses. Accept that they are going to lose big time in the next election, with or without Trump.

However, if they get rid of Trump, they stand a better chance at surviving and returning to the stage in the next presidential election.

That is the logical thing for them to do.
