"Repubs outsourced Ukraine policy to private lawyer paid by Russian mobsters. An Army vet objected."

Jonathan Chait ✔ @jonathanchait (New York Magazine)

Republicans outsourced Ukraine policy to a private lawyer being paid by Russian mobsters. An Army vet objected to their extortion racket. Republicans are calling him disloyal.

No one can continue to claim that this is too complicated for the American public to understand.

He's still on active duty. That makes his testimony even more compelling. He's putting his reputation on the line.

.... to describe someone who served in the military but is no longer on active duty.

But the dictionary expands on the use of the term veteran.

https://www.thefreedictionary.com/veteran

As a kid, it used to confuse me when my dad was described as a veteran printer. Printing had nothing to do with his job in the Navy during WW II. But he was a union printer for his whole life.

In this case, Thank you Army Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman for honoring your oath and speaking up.

Just saying!

sense that he is a veteran of the Gulf War.

I restrict the use of the word "veteran" to someone who has received a discharge and is no longer carrying a green ID.

Wikipedia says there are variations on that now too.

Either way, I admire the guy for what he is doing.

Thanks for the feedback.

NSC staff are not supposed to wear military uniform.

Why did Alex Vindman turn up for his testimony today in full uniform?

It's political theatre. A coup.

Because these people don't like Trump's America First foreign policy.

{ETA:}

You can’t keep a good culture warrior down: The return of Oliver North

OK. Now, substitute “Oliver North” for “Alex Vindman” and let me know how you feel...
