(10,874 posts)The U.S. market share of plug-in electric passenger cars increased from 0.14% in 2011 to 0.62% in 2013; reached 0.75% in 2014 and fell to 0.66% in 2015. Then climbed to 0.90% in 2016, to 1.13% in 2017, and achieved a record market share of 2.1% in 2018.

(12,047 posts)Electric-Car Owners Hard Hit by Massive California Power Shutdown
Californias power outage means problems for electric cars. Tesla says charge up, quick.

(13,200 posts)Tesla M3 is fueling that growth right now, and as tesla opens up new production facilities and adjusts prices accordingly, their world market share is going to increase its growth rate. As that happens the legacy ICE manufacturers are going to have to seriously compete. I give it 20 years max, and likely much sooner, before commodity ice vehicles will be a thing of the past.

(10,874 posts)...in the time I will have. (can you even haul a trailer with one any distance?)
ffr
(22,672 posts)For the itinerary, just plug in where you want to go and the car will figure it out. It does all the planning and tells you where to go and for how long you'll need to charge on Tesla's Supercharging network.
Teslas can charge off anything from a electric dryer outlet, a garage NEMA-1450, an RV park electrical hookup or Tesla Supercharger. That would be charging at 30A, 50A, 40 - 50A, or 500A.

(10,874 posts)..I have limited vacation time. And what kind of range would you get hauling a trailer with a motorcycle on it? Not much i am guessing. Do they even sell hitches for pure EV's?

(22,672 posts)Range with an open motorcycle trailer, for me would probably be about 200 miles, unless you're talking about a 4,000 lbs twin axle toy hauler to tote your EX500 with. Then you might need to step up to a Tesla Model X

We've done the drives with my car where we bomb it with minimal stops and now we have an EV where I'm presented with stops and having to break up a 900 mile drive into an overnight somewhere. The charges are free and I take a lot more enjoyment from the entire trip, all of it. Look forward to every mile of it, just to drive this awesome EV.
At charging stops I take short walks, get a quick bite to eat along the way, take pictures, shop, catch up on E-mail, and when we arrive, we arrive fresh and in style. Yeah, where we go, kinda off the main highways more and more, we get people taking pictures of the car, like it's a novelty. I personally don't like the attention, except for the 'can't be,' reactions. Those are fun.
The reactions never get old. When they ask where you came from, their mouth tends to drop when you tell them your last supercharge was in another state, the next supercharger is 100 miles away and all you have to charge on is a little RV hookup. Never a worry, the car figures it out.
We're meeting a lot of interesting people all across America, simply because we have a car that's different and it's changed us.
I was like you just two years ago, driving my ICE everywhere and letting the EV collect dust. Now my ICE car is the one collecting dust, battery nearly dead from sitting in my garage until it snows, because I don't enjoy driving it. I'd rather scratch up my ICE vehicle in foul weather.
