How can they possibly not see the corruption and fight for our collective democracy? I just don't get it.

(5,810 posts)It does make me sad that so many people who have not paid attention to things happening in DC may not realize how much the Republicans are mischaracterizing this whole thing. I just hope that once open hearings are going, their ignorance will evaporate in the light of evidence.

(5,810 posts)as they read their statements. Lots of flailing and gesturing. All for nothing. The process will go forward and the American people will get to hear the testimony. Testimony that will damn tRump and maybe others, as well. And their emotional words used today will fade into the history books. They are marking their place in history. I suspect many of them will not be happy where they land.

(129,388 posts)During the resolution markup last night, McGovern (Rules Committee Chair) had to literally read, word for word, the justifications written by Trey Gowdy, for how and why he conducted the Benghazi hearings the way he did. But the cognitive dissonance (or purposeful denial) was full force.

The GOP is empty but for noggins filled with bullshit talking points.

(7,396 posts)they will listen to more lies and misinformation on faux news and other radical RW propaganda spewing. I just don't know how the live hearings will even reach them.
Our country has so much it needs to change and heal from.

(5,810 posts)I remember watching the Watergate testimony. I didnt follow politics at all at that time other than to vote. But that testimony was riveting AND history. So my hopes are high that more people will want to watch the current hearings for the same reasons. Im looking forward to hearing Numbnuts defend himself. That ought to be enlightening.

(5,810 posts)He is more likely to do a series of Tweets or helicopter pad interviews with half of his drivel drowned out by the rotors. I imagine whoever is left in the WH will bust a gut trying to get him to refrain from going before the committee. Since he lies when the truth might serve him better, they know the danger if he testifies in his own defense. But IF he insists, it will be worth watching since he will incriminate himself every other breath. Stable genius, my ass.

(15,751 posts)court decisions proving the case against trump, more indictments, more arrests, and still more process - we're getting there. Long war.
Possibly, at the end, a great cultural shift - not as great as Germany and Japan post WWII, but . . .
