She was talking about how many of the speakers at the DNC are members of Congress, and so asked Pelosi, won't that hurt the Dems because people hate Congress so much? She mentioned Paul Ryan in passing, but that isn't enough. The people started hating Congress when Ryan's party took over from Pelosi's party. In other words, it's his fault, not her fault, don't ask her about it, ask him about it.
Pelosi gave a good answer, basically: yes everyone hates Congress, I hate them too. I love what she said about who the 18% are, meaning the people that don't hate Congress. Who are these people?
I couldn't find the video, but here is a summary:
Mitchell asked Pelosi about how the low opinion of Congress may impact the 2012 elections, to which Pelosi responded that she thought it was interesting that the Congresses she controlled when Bush was president did not inspire this low of an approval rating.
I think the disfavor is springing from the obstruction of the Republican Congress to any initiatives or offering of overtures to the Republicans to work together, said Pelosi. I dont even know who the 18 percent are do you approve of how Congress has obstructed President Obama? I dont think so.

(42,724 posts)Yes, Congress has consistently been rated less favorably during the past couple of years than during the 2007-2011 period when the Democrats had the majority in the House. But the facts, as demonstrated by the polls cited in your post, is that Congress had suck-y ratings during both periods. If there is a "49 percent" favorability rating during the 2007 - 2011 period, its not reflected in the polls you cited.
Let's leave the misrepresenatations and exagerrations to the other side.

And no, I didn't take time to crunch the numbers to do a precise comparison; I simply scanned the list and saw many more 30s and 40s during Pelosi's time than during Boehners's.
And while we're leaving things "to the other side," how about losing your snottty tone and accusations that I purposely "misrepresented" the facts? I don't take kindly to suggestions that I lie, and even less kindly to comparisons to the liars on the Republican ticket.
Prick.

(190 posts)and didn't come away with that conclusion. As you've mentioned, it was because she noted that quite a few speakers are members of congress, as opposed to the speakers at the RNC. I was actually surprised that your thread was referencing that particular interview. It's been a common and silly narrative that the RNC has had a diverse group of speakers (meant to put women and minorities out front, as a superficial representative of their party and policy platform) in comparison to the speakers scheduled to speak at the DNC. See Chuck Todd's comments.
