But, to be expected from someone who probably has the same work ethic as Paul Ryan!

...I think he knows exactly what he is doing: namely, trying to redefine a day that is meant to celebrate Labor (cough Communists cough). He is trying to manipulate reality into the Republicans' favored version which is that of the entrepreneur who "takes risks" and then makes it big and becomes a Job Creator -- i.e. a boss who by their logic is now free to pay people as little as possible and take as much profit as possible for himself or herself.

They do this sort of thing on purpose. They always, always try to muddy the waters, in ways large and small. This is just one illustration of the tactic.

where the workers own and operate their business. Likely he'd dismiss that concept as socialist.

various observation regarding business to meet their own perspective.

Don't be a victim:
An employee disagreed with a tactic the manager proposed and the manager said "Don't be a victim" to mean - don't complain, when, in fact, the employee was not being a victim by stating her opposition to the new directive.

Perception is reality:
Used, by management, to warn employees that if employees act outside the accepted norm then, a negative perseption of the employee would affect their standing within the company. Perception is reality is only true when one person has no relationship with the observed individual and can not ask for additional information as to the ligic of the individual's behavior.

A different conflict:
We had a program called "Dress for Success" that continued after we had been having week-long retreats to focus on "valuing people". The retreats were supposed to identify prejudice based on race, creed, color and sex and improve working relationships. The dress for success program supported the idea that - if you didn't want to be seen in a negative light then you would dress in a manner so that people would view you without prejudice (as one of them). With one program the owness to eliminate prejudice is on the individual and with the other, the owness is on the group.

Just some thoughts
