(58,785 posts)Just for one big instance, there are LOTS of black evangelicals. Smearing them with all the rest would fit the definition of bigot of a lot of people here. Accidentally of course.
Then there are other groups. Like evangelical Christian Democrats for just one who may also be a minority among evangelicals but really don't deserve bigoted smearing with the whole.

(14,961 posts)Boy was I ever wrong. I have learned more in the last 4 years than I ever learned in the previous 38 yrs since I was born. I had no clue there was so much hate, and so many people that are only out for themselves.😳

(11,949 posts)For the first time ever.
Their kind of batshit crazy beliefs dont hold up in an educated, multicultural world which more and more Americans live in.
Im not just making a supposition but stating personal experience.
I grew up in the middle sized city South as an evangelical. Moved to Central Florida, met different people, travel internationally and most importantly was introduced to the writings of Hume. Perhaps the greatest English speaking philosopher ever. Now Im a freethinker and rationalist.
Once I realized that the beliefs I came up with are followed by a tiny group of Christians worldwide I started thinking.
I have no doubt had I been raised in a more mainline Christian tradition where it was easy to believe in science and have faith I might still go to church and believe. But my evangelical upbringing made me examine my beliefs to their root and I came the conclusion it was all bullshit. Because to believe the world is 6000 years old, that the entire earth flooded 4000 years ago and some dude built a boat to save all the animals and so on and so forth...
You have to be able to deny reality.
So their is no depth to the level these people will sink to uphold their narrative of the world.
Our best hope is they will once again disengage from the political world and go back to their shrinking world of delusion. But they are our biggest threat. People who believe they have god in the camp are capable of anything.
