BARTLESVILLE, Okla. Ten people at a facility for those with intellectual disabilities were hospitalized after they were injected with what authorities suspect was insulin rather than flu shots.
Emergency responders were called Wednesday afternoon to the Jacquelyn House, about 40 miles north of Tulsa, on a report of an unresponsive person and found "multiple unresponsive people," Bartlesville Police Chief Tracy Roles said.
The facility had contracted with an experienced pharmacist to administer the influenza vaccine, Roles said, but all received injections of what's believed to be insulin instead. Roles said the pharmacist is cooperating with police, but investigators believe it was an accident.
The eight residents and two staff members were taken to a hospital, and all have either been released or will be soon.

(146,324 posts)deliberately looked at the bottle twice before giving me the shot. I did, too. It was Fluzone quadruple dose vaccine. I don't see how such an accident could occur. Someone should receive some serious punishment over this. Insulin can kill.

(41,998 posts)It occurred to me, are anti-vaxxers against DOG vaccines?? So I asked, turns out they are. That explains the parvo outbreak at a nearby dog parkone I will never, ever be taking my new dog too. I hate anti-vaxxers.
Our flu shots at the facility I work at are pre-packaged, and we have to fill out lot number, manufacturers, expiration date etc. we also use a screening questionnaire. The origins of this should be easy to track.

(22,270 posts)Insulin overdose is never going to look like flu. For one thing, where is the fever? We are talking about sweats, tunnel vision, shakes, changes in vital signs, headaches and loss of consciousness.
