Paris essentially on lockdown for the gilets jaunes anniversary today

23 metro stations are closed; basically the entire right bank west of the Louvre and south of Montmartre is inaccessible, along with the left bank from Solferino to the Champs de Mars.

I went to Porte Maillot (the extreme west end of the closures) this morning to check out the preparations: police and gendarmes literally blanketing the Avenue de la Grande Armee all the way to the Arc de Triomphe, and they do not look happy.

The one bit of good news is that it's about 40 degrees and drizzling, so hopefully that may thin the crowd out some. As it is, I'll be keeping inside and watching Netflix today.
