Yeah I remember as a kid wondering what 2015 would be like, when I turned 50. Some ways I am amazed, some ways I am severely disappointed.
We should have colonies on Mars now, for instance.
Given the impending climate disaster, I am glad I am not young right now.

(11,744 posts)Especially when we as a nation have not really even had an honest look at ourselves or honest discussion about our issues with racism, sexism, and worship of money.
We make progress, but the forces that stand to lose their dominance over society (Rich, White, Protestant Men) fight back when they feel we are getting close to a paradigm shift. Remember that we live by rules and principles but they live for power and do not follow the same rules that we live by.
History moves like a pendulum on a rail. It moves in the direction of progress but swings back and forth as it moves toward the future.
