The next time a Republican pulls out this talking point, I wish one of the journalists would ask them "Obstruction of justice, abuse of power, contempt of Congress - those are the three articles of impeachment against Richard Nixon. Is your view that Nixon should not have been impeached?
Lying under oath and obstruction of justice were the articles against Bill Clinton. Is your view that that is not an impeachable offense and (if Lindsey Graham or other old codger in the Senate) do you now regret your decision to vote to impeach President Clinton?"

(14,909 posts)Trumps pinheads benefit from the complex narrative. It buys them time.
We waste ours explaining their lies, crimes and treason.
Thank you for making the case clear. What Trump did was treason:
Trumps actions as pee-resident help Russia and hurt America.

(18,125 posts)1) There's no question that he pressured Ukraine to investigate the Bidens before he would release military aid. It was on the "transcript" of the phone call, and several first hand witnesses corroborate the facts.
2) The federal statutes are very clear about what constitutes bribery, and what trump did fits these statutes to a t. (Whoever, being a public official, directly or indirectly, corruptly demands anything of value personally in return for being influenced in the performance of any official act has engaged in the crime of bribery.)
3) Bribery is one of two crimes specifically mentioned (along with high crimes and misdemeanors) in the Constitution as justification for impeachment.
These three factors make a clear cut case for impeachment.
