I didn’t know about SLAPP lawsuits and that many states don’t allow them. In the states that allow them, they should require the filer to pay for the defendant’s legal costs after they lose the case.

We are grateful Snopes has had the opportunity to contribute to building and maintaining that shared foundation of facts for 25 years.

But without the support of our readers, Snopes would have been put out of business by the lawsuit that has threatened our existence for more than two years.

David Mikkelson's ex-wife sold her interest and he's trying to divorce Snopes from the new co-owner. I have no sympathy for him.

when Barbara was still there, that she was doing most of the work, or at least most of the writing.

But sympathy for David is one thing and not wanting to use a valued resource is another.

That snopes was no longer the apolitical site and leaned far more right with new ownership. I have not been using them any longer.

I wrote them an email expressing how appalled I am to find out they are suing Snopes. You'd think a news magazine would NOT be suing a site that separates fact from fiction.
