ICE arrests 90 more students at fake university in Michigan

About 90 additional foreign students of a fake university in metro Detroit created by the Department of Homeland Security have been arrested in recent months.

A total of about 250 students have now been arrested since January on immigration violations by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as part of a sting operation by federal agents who enticed foreign-born students, mostly from India, to attend the school that marketed itself as offering graduate programs in technology and computer studies, according to ICE officials.

Many of those arrested have been deported to India while others are contesting their removals. One has been allowed to stay after being granted lawful permanent resident status by an immigration judge.

The students had arrived legally in the U.S. on student visas, but since the University of Farmington was later revealed to be a creation of federal agents, they lost their immigration status after it was shut down in January. The school was located on Northwestern Highway near 13 Mile Road in Farmington Hills and staffed with undercover agents posing as university officials.

They lure valid students w visas to a school that they created. They then are not a legitimate school so the student visas are no longer valid and they then cry foul and deport them? Am I understanding this correctly? What was the purpose of this school other than entrapment?

3. Yeah, what is even the point of enticing foreigners to come only to deport them?

If they were targeting people who were already in the country without documentation, that would be one thing. But to target people who not only hadn't done anything wrong any didn't know they were doing anything improper is ridiculous.

Unless I'm missing a key part of the story, this is just another example of this administration being jerks for the sake of being jerks.

6. It should have been obvious to students that it was a fake college

Since there were never any teachers, classes, or educational services of any kind. It was aa sting operation to attract those who wanted to scam the student visa program

But then, Wikipedia says that homeland security listed it as a legitimate university, so if students did their due diligence and found that, it's hard to claim they knew it was not legit.

Plus, again, why go to India to bring people over only to deport them?

I get sting operations for pedophiles, e.g. they're already here and likely to commit crimes if you don't catch them. But we wouldn't think to recruit pedophiles from other countries to come here just to arrest them.

"Their true intent could not be clearer," Assistant U.S. Attorney Brandon Helms wrote in a sentencing memo this month for Rampeesa, one of the eight recruiters, of the hundreds of students enrolled. "While 'enrolled' at the University, one hundred percent of the foreign citizen students never spent a single second in a classroom. If it were truly about obtaining an education, the University would not have been able to attract anyone, because it had no teachers, classes, or educational services."

I also see that at least one of the targets were already here on student visas but their school lost accreditation. So at least in those cases, they weren't going to foreign countries to import people violating immigration laws.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/University_of_Farmington summarizes it nicely.

Set up in 2016.

Explicitly told no classes, not attendance, no credits, no progress to degree.

Not even sure if they had to be in the same town.

The people who came to this school were not here to attend classes, this was a fraudulent way to enter the US.

The rich people who payed to get their kids into all the Elite schools? This is the same thing on a wider pooer scale. Poor people payed to get into a fake university.

Dhs listed them as legit. Their website claimed it was legit.

When conducting a sting operation, it's imperative that the target must obviously know that what they are doing is illegal. pedophile stings make sure that the target believes they are attempting to have sex with with a minor. They don't pretend to be over the age of consent and then go haha, you were actually talking to a minor.
