Everybody at my table is virulently anti-Trump, so the talk was all impeachment, election predictions, when do we march on Washington, etc.
My grandson is 15 but very political and well-informed, and he probably showed more hatred of Trump than anybody else at the table.
My brother (ex-Special Forces) wasn’t there since he lives on the other coast. He was always pretty fascist until he went on welfare - meaning he retired and is now dependent on the VA, military retirement and Social Security. He no longer preaches against the damned government, and we’re all fairly certain he did not vote for the Orange Traitor.

The Holidays are for being with family, I do not allow politics to be discussed when family is here. Most of them are progressive and a few moderates. We enjoy the time together and that is about it. Now when we go to a different place such as my GF's brother, I do not take the bait so everyone can enjoy, out of respect for my GF. It sucks but must be done for sanity at home!!

By moving 300+ miles away from all of my family, and then being too broke to travel.

I made it a policy long ago that I wouldn't accept from family what I wouldn't accept from strangers. If you're an asshole, you're an asshole, and I don't make an exception for family when it comes to that. If anything, it's worse having to put up with it from family, because you know for a fact that they had every chance to know better, but refused to do it.

Life is too short to put up with nonsense from people who can't bother to be decent human beings.

So my husband and I stayed home and enjoyed a lovely diabetic-friendly Thanksgiving dinner in glorious peace and quiet.

But since all but 2 people will be either Germans, Austrians or Dutch, there will be plenty of political discussions, and not a Trumpanzee in sight. The only 100% Americans will be me and the daughter of one of the original counsel of the Watergate investigating committee. There will be 16 adults in all. I don't think a Republican would want to crash this party even if fluent in English, Dutch and German and wearing full body armor.

I had to leave early Saturday afternoon for work in Hannover (just got home from that), and my daughter's boyfriend was called late Friday to an urgent mission to England the next morning. The poor guy had to leave before dawn on Saturday to catch a 6:30 AM flight to London (1 hour flight from here), which he REALLY didn't want to do, since he had to be in Berlin later that afternoon (80 minute flight). I'm not the only one in the family stuck with a schedule that would have led James Bond to go on strike.

few slips. I have to say, I admire them for being so well behaved. The BIL made a few minor slips that I ignored and then at T-giving dinner when everyone went around the table to say what they were grateful for, my sweet little 12-year old niece Emma said she was grateful for President Trump.

I don't think she knows what she is talking about (She is obviously influenced by her parents), but as soon as she said it, the adorable 8-year old son of the other guests we had said "We will have none of that tonight".
