A new study from the University of Michigan and Georgetown found that sustained negative media coverage of the Hillary Clinton email scandal drove voters open-ended responses about the 2016 presidential race and favorability toward the candidates.
The fact that this one story dominated the narrative about Clinton seemed to have an effect on voters
On the other hand, people remembered many different news stories about Donald Trump over time. These stories appeared and disappeared quickly, and no one story made a big impression on respondents.

(3,011 posts)offended daily. The media needed a horse race. They needed to appear unbiased - both sides are doing it. The media doesn't know what to do with an unequal field. Everyone acted like reporting the truth, that republicans nominated a sociopath, was biased.

(11,519 posts)The sad truth is that there are so so many horrible stories to tell about tRump, so that it's nearly impossible to focus on any one of them for more than a day or two. The Ukrainian scandal managed to keep peoples attention up until a week ago, we need for the next round to carry on for quite some time.
Yes, in an ideal world these hearings wouldn't have a political purpose other than exposing the truth. But in an ideal world we'd have a Senate Majority Leader that was more interested in doing his job than in protecting a crooked president.

(6,395 posts)If Trump was leading the race, the media would have been on top of him like flies on shit. Close election races put butts in couches in front of the TV, end of story and that's what they want.
Trump manipulated the media perfectly by making them the "enemy" and thus all the shit he did was dismissed by average Joe and Jane Schmoe. Particularly when they didn't do due diligence and investigate him even more. But if Hillary so much as farted, they talked how much it reaked non stop.

(14,492 posts)If one takes the individual components of their public and social media system, no one of them controls America's daily dialog very much, with the possible exception of Faux News. None of them would keep repeating a story over and over unless commanded to do so. If left alone, each would run about chasing the next shiny object story in order to be competitive.
However, commanded they are. Once the basic story is out and widespread, their organizations know to keep it on repeat literally forever. Many people say the primary scripts for the stories they want to dominate come out of a few hard right-wing think tanks such as Heritage Foundation and AEI. So it does appear to be well coordinated.
When we take the huge combined mass of all their media venues and they're all singing the same song, the message becomes dominant quite quickly in our daily dialog. That mass includes Fox, Facebook and Twitter and hundreds of talk radio stations on repeat every day, including those carrying Limbaugh. Then, there's print newspapers and internet blogs as well.
We also know almost all remaining media outlets are profit mongers having many Republicans on their boards of directors. Almost all are scared shitless to call out Republican lies for fear of retribution.

Then, a few years later, on page 16, there would have been a story titled, "Investigation of Joe Biden Finds No Wrongdoing."
