Democrats have never in the history of this country comported themselves like these fools. The party of being willfully stupid has enabled a religious-like sect of the electorate that has been brainwashed to follow the party line no matter what, even if your lying eyes and existential reality tell you otherwise.
The congressional GOP has shown itself incapable of passing significant legislation with its asinine, intransigent cabals like the Freedom Caucus, and its gaming of the system with the Hastert Rule and Moscow Mitchs hijacking of regular order in the Senate. And finally they have enabled and blindly support the most corrupt, inept, money-grubbing, hate-mongering president in the history of the country.
Trump is guilty on all counts, and impeachment and removal should be a no-brainer but for the equivocation, false-equivalence, double-talk and downright refusal of the GOP Congress to confront the truth, and whats worse is that all around him are also complicit in his betrayal of the American people and Constitution. - MailTribune

(8,844 posts)THE thing that makes this all work is the Republicans in the Senate. Period.
Like lard ass fat boy Trump, they all got enormous campaign contributions from Russia, with the money channeled from Putin and Russian Oligarchs, through the NRA to each Republican Senator's PAC funds.
In addition, commie McConnell received a ton of money thru his so called wife's Oligarch Chinese parents..You can go on and on......The Saudi's oligarchs, etc etc

(2,809 posts)Would cause the likes of Faux Noise and the Hate Pundits to twist the truth so far out of wack in playing the victim card, I hope someone brave enough to listen to those hacks can monitor the spin, perhaps begin to unravel the twisted, house-of-cards narrative, even a little, because that's all it would take for the Republicans to be on losing ground from now on.
When 4 million voices against their crap were silenced in the 2016 election to their bullshit,
When it takes even more than that should they ever win again.
I'd say that day will begin to wake enough of the zombiefied cult up.

(10,721 posts)The Republican Party can only do what it does because of how stunningly ignorant the US population is. Actually, the GOP wouldn't even exist if not for said ignorance.
The next Democratic president should declare that US ignorance is a national emergency. It's time to shine a spotlight on this massive, massive problem, highlighting the fact that tens of millions of people subscribe to utter nonsense. I'm not kidding. The next Dem president should put together an official task force to tackle US ignorance. This could be announced at the new president's first SOTU address. The task force would visit schools, analyze the media and interview people from all over the country, and produce a report, including recommendations on what needs to be done. Hopefully that would spur a conversation (about, for instance, how an embarrassingly large proportion of people in the US don't accept the reality of evolution, as compared to populations in other democratic nations). And maybe being blunt about the fact that people are subscribing to nonsense will at least get a portion of the population to strive to be less ignorant. If nothing else, we can have a positive influence on future generations by prioritizing education reform and media reform.
Until we lessen ignorance, we'll keep spinning our wheels on climate change, systemic racism, equal pay for women, wealth inequality, health care, etc., etc., etc.
