The Senate Republicans better think long and hard before they decide to be complicit in a crime.

The Senate republicans know Trump is guilty and they know he should be removed. All of America will be watching the Trial and it will not go well for the Republicans. They cannot defend what Trump has done. If they prematurely end , create a freak show in order to protect Trump, the American people will take notice.

The Republicans, in all their madness have developed a fatal flaw. They radicalized their base and now they allow themselves to be prisoners to their base. If any of them step out of line they will be voted out of office. They fear their base, it is pure cowardice. They are failing to recognize one very important fact. Their base is the minority. The Majority of Americans will become filled with rage if the Republicans do not convict Trump after a trial proves he is guilty and must be removed.

The Senate Republicans also do not seem to understand another important fact. If they acquit Trump, from that moment on they will be held responsible for what ever Trump does next. If they acquit Trump, they will remove all boundaries that keep a president in check.

Trump has already removed everyone in the Whitehouse who said No to him, people who stopped him from doing really crazy shit. This has been reported by the news media. He is now surrounded by Yes men, idiots, cult like followers. If he is acquitted he will also be free of the rule of law and the constitution.

Bottom line, Trump who is extremely mentally ill, will have no one around him to say no and no constitution, rule of law to keep him under control. The chances of that combination ending in a great tragedy are extremely high.

The Republicans may believe protecting Trump is politically good for them in the short term. In the long term it could devastate their party, our country, maybe the world.

Three votes could make it a tie vote. I assume that the Chief Justice would be the tie-breaker in such an instance, and not the VP, as is normal in Senate operations.

Not because he would be able to cast a vote, but because his ruling would not be overturned. As Pence is not presiding, I don’t believe he would be able to vote and break a tie in Republicans favor.

by Fat Nixon's MAGA cult, and they aren't worried about crimes because they figure nothing will ever happen to them.

The ones in swing states can just not show up that day, and effectively 'dodge the question', and still end up with trump convicted by '...a majority of the members PRESENT.'

The math is there. Yertle just has to run the names and the numbers.

Helped cover up a GOP candidates treason
Nixon was interfering with the Vietnam war peace talks (absolute treason IMO a betrayal to all the oaths he had taken before as house member, senate, and VP,
but the GOP protected and profited from this act of treason for 6 more years before actually threatening to impeach him on a different weaker charge).
And what did America do? Elect carter for one term.

Reagan was colluding with Iran during the campaign.
Hell, he got reelected.

then they won't this time past any normal cyclical fashion

and that is to our everlasting shame and everlasting destruction as a nation IMO

Trump was complaining that the impeachment proceedings would be starting while he was not here.
As per his usual cowardice now that he is here he will not be attending!

They must believe they have a permanent lock on power or else they would not be behaving that way. Lord knows they do just about everything that can be done to tilt elections in their favor.

I am starting to believe that the government isn't really there but is a coverup just to keep us busy.

I have never seen so many chickenshit, ignorant aholes in all my life. These people are running the country? OMG...
