Suspect attacks woman on Phoenix light rail, tries to steal her wheelchair

PHOENIX (3TV/CVS5) -- Who would do that?? Police are searching for a man who attacked a woman on the Phoenix light rail, dumping her out of her wheelchair and trying to steal it.

He almost got away with it, but bystanders on the bus chased him down and got the woman's wheelchair back. Unfortunately, the suspect got away.

This happened on Friday, Nov. 29 (the day after Thanksgiving) on the light rail train near 12th Street and Jefferson.The whole thing was caught on surveillance video, and to watch it all happen is shocking.

You can see the suspect grabbing the victim’s wheelchair and start trying to dump the woman from the chair. But the woman resisted, and a slight scuffle followed. The victim screamed for help and fell from her wheelchair during the struggle. The suspect tried to take the wheelchair off the train, but folks riding the train who watched it all go down jumped in to help. One witness managed to grab the chair from the suspect. The suspect then took off on foot.
