At Kennedy Center Honors dinner, Pompeo asks when he'll be loved. Linda Ronstadt responds.

At the State Dept. dinner for the Kennedy Center honorees Mike Pompeo wondered aloud when he would be “loved”. Then Linda Ronstadt got up to get laurels, looked the fucker right in the eye and said “maybe when you stop enabling Donald Trump”. Icon.

I saw it in the theatre and I don't think it's still out but it's going to be on CNN on New Years Day. I also highly recommend it...

Still seems odd there isn't more out there about it, at least audio. Was this a phone in secure bag event?

A Guardian article linked within your CNN link also quotes Variety, giving some more detail beyond the original tweet from Greisman:

The remark was relayed in a viral tweet by Sam Greisman, son of the actor Sally Field, another honoree.

“Linda Ronstadt got up to get laurels,” he wrote, “looked the fucker right in the eye and said ‘maybe when you stop enabling Donald Trump’. Icon.”

Variety saw the incident slightly differently, reporting: “Ronstadt rose to the microphone a feet away from the host’s table and looked straight ahead. ‘I’d like to say to Mr Pompeo, who wonders when he’ll be loved, it’s when he stops enabling Donald Trump.’ Then she sat down.”

Pompeo, who said “I just read them” after his When Will I Be Loved gag prompted laughter, also said he was “a big fan of Linda Ronstadt … an icon of folk and country music” whom he saluted for “30 albums, 10 Grammys, a bestselling memoir”.

Can't even tell you how many guys with Linda crushes would approach me with "Omg! You look just like Linda Ronstadt!" I even went as her for Halloween a few years-roller skates and shorts. Good times.

I also crushed on Joan Baez. I met her once. She was friendly, but clearly not interested. Monterey Folk Festival. I was a banjo player, and we ran into each other. Nice conversation, but no sparks. I gave her up for Linda.
