ann romney: 'I know what its like to have no hope'...bullshit annie

Last edited Wed Sep 5, 2012, 05:55 PM - Edit history (1)

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/09/05/ann-romney-ms_n_1858737.html

FINDLAY, Ohio -- Ann Romney fired back Wednesday at critics who have accused husband Mitt Romney of being out of touch with average Americans, saying her own bout with multiple sclerosis taught the family what it means to suffer and lose hope.

"When people say that we've led a charmed life and we don't relate to people that are having trouble, I want to remind you that I've been in a very dark place, and I know what it is like to have no hope," Mrs. Romney said at a rally for women supporting her husband, the Republican presidential candidate, at the University of Findlay in Ohio. "So believe me when I tell you these words: We are there for you because we know what it feels like."

Democrats attending their party's national convention this week in Charlotte, N.C., have repeatedly accused the wealthy Romney of a remoteness from the problems facing ordinary Americans. That critique is one of the primary arguments Democrats have used to criticize Romney and support the re-election efforts of President Barack Obama.

"My husband was getting demonized, lied about, and now, you know, we're really getting it, as you know," Mrs. Romney said.
............................

I can certainly sympathize with mrs. romney in regards to having had a devastating disease. I had polio as a baby, and I've spent half my life in a wheelchair, so I can relate, sort of.

What queen ann doesn't mention is that when she was down and out, she wasn't really down and out because of the many, many millions of dollars at her disposal. My parents couldn't even afford caring for a seriously disabled child, so they sent me to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children which payed for the many years of surgeries and rehabilition which I needed, at no charge to my folks.

ann, you DON'T know what it's like to have no hope, and no money at all, so don't even try to pretend you know what its like. Every time you try to act like the average American, you look like a total idiot. I know exactly what your husband and his running mate have in mind for people who have no more hope, so screw you lady.

Stay classy, Ann.

Sorry, but most people look at her and think, that it really is awful that she has MS and no one would wish it on anyone. Then in the next thought.. "well, at least SHE has all the money in the world, and insurance, so that she can afford the best care.. and if the MS ever progresses to where she'd need help getting around, she has drivers and employees."

But she uses it for pity, all the while supporting people that want others to suffer and die because they don't have the money or insurance. She's supporting the "health care is a PRIVILEGE, not a right!" crowd.

That's the fundamental problem with the Romneys. They just DONT GET IT and at this point it's just infuriating. They're very clueless and ??? about things like this and continue to show how much they don't know.

The Kennedys, by contrast, realized/realize that their money gave them opportunities that others did not have--and they fought/fight to give others those same opportunities.

I'm all for born-rich people with brains, and I for one would love it it if they were like "look, I'm rich. I don't know what it is like to be hungry--and I want to work so that your children don't know what it is like either." Or something like that.

You don't have to know what it's like, but don't be a douche about it either.

At the risk of revealing too much personal information...here goes.

I was diagnosed in the early 90's with a rare disease. I was a single parent raising two young children. I HAD to work to make ends meet...but even more so, to keep my insurance.

I dragged my ass in to work even when I was too sick to do so. And when I did it too often, I ended up in the hospital. To date, I have been hospitalized 75 times for illness and 10 times for surgeries.
I have spent countless months at home on intravenous medications.
I have worked with bags of medication hanging into the implanted port in my chest.

And when I lost my job because I was sick too much, I had to work per diem so that I could pay outrageous amounts of premiums under COBRA. Yes, I was thankful it was available, but destroyed my credit because health insurance was the FIRST thing that was paid for.

Once, I did go and apply for Food Stamps, but I was turned down. Yes, it made me upset against the system because I felt I was in need, but it didn't make me bitter against those that had help.

Over the years, when I have had flares, I have lost jobs because I am not a member of a profession that has a union that would protect me, simply because I was sick. And even though I have had jobs that had short term disability insurance and FMLA and even long term disability, employers WILL find loop holes to deny you those benefits and in a right-to-work state, good luck fighting it.

Over the years, I have maxed out TWO million dollar policies and I know what a desperate feeling that is. In fact, the first employer that I worked for when I maxed it out was very understanding and certainly worked with my illness and its constraints, but I HAD to leave that job to find another one with another insurance policy so that I could proceed to max it out.

So Ann, while I have empathy for your chronic illness, it really sucks, but I honestly doubt that YOU have been able to walk in my shoes for even one tiny second because if you did, YOU would understand how important it is to extend HELP in the form of insurance coverage to those people that are just like you and just like me. But YOU have yours, and in your opinion, people like ME can just drop dead since we weren't born rich, so I have NO sympathy to you.

First of all, it sounds like you had a job with medical benefits until you were too sick to continue.

If you were here in Ontario you would be allowed to take off and come back when you are well and when it became too serious you would be put on disability.

My son and husband were cancer stricken in 1998. My son was just in his job 2 months when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor.
He had the same one as Ted Kennedy.. He received the same treatment as Ted. surgeries,, radiation, chemo , 3 operations. and 6 weeks in intensive care and a week of palliative care... His company paid his long term disability until he died.

My husband who was diagnosed 2 months later than our son with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma also got disability from his company. He was employed for over 20 years with his company.
He had operation, chemo, radiation , stem cell transplant, a month in the hospital for his chemo and transplant.

Finally 3 months before he died he entered palliative care ..for 3 months. The cost for their treatment...zero..

My dear friend was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2002. She continued to work as it was slow growing. In 2006 it started growing again. She had surgery which left her too disabled to work. so she is still on the disability from work.. She is getting 60 percent of what she made.. Same was for my son and husband. It would be against the law here for the companies they worked for to fire them for being sick.

America is not the greatest country for all their citizens...only for their elite rich. I hope your president Obama wins for all the citizens. Health care is a right not for profit.

I wish that our country was as forward thinking as yours...because to be chronically ill in this country is stressful worrying about losing your job...and living in a "right to work" state is doubly stressful because you can be fired at the whim of your employer--for any reason that they decide they want to fire you for.

One hospital that I worked for had a consulting company come in and magically, every single employee that used FMLA was terminated for various causes--but none of them being the REAL reason.

They wore me down a long time ago.

However, I have found ways around taking the expensive medicine...but there are more repercussions to my story than I am willing to share (at least at this time).

I had to hock my vacuum cleaner to feed my kids one week...so I honestly don't think she can relate to what it is like to be chronically ill in this country without adequate resources to tend to those needs and maintain a functional life.

For those that are chronically ill--and I am speaking for many more out there just like me...one of the first things you lose is your credit record. I haven't spoken to anyone that has disputed that.

And now that your job is tied to your credit record and your health insurance is tied to your job....it isn't hard to realize that more and more chronically ill people are being denied employment, but not because of their "illness"...but because of their "credit".

It is on purpose, I think.

However, this subject is very personal and brings a lot of feelings to me, so I should probably just stop.

Yesterday, I went to the doctor with a friend of mine who is suffering from a life-threatening condition. The doctor wanted to talk to him about chemotherapy and my friend wanted someone along as a "second pair of ears."

My friend is on Medicare, lives in a subsidized apt, and pretty much lives SS check to SS check. His big social event is breakfast with friends once a week.

The doctor explained the chemo -- once a day for a week, one week a month -- would provide a better quality of life, allowing him to function better than he is, although he wouldn't return fully to normal or necessarily lengthen his life significantly. He would be able to do things like walk to the mailbox without exhausting himself.

Sounded good until my friend asked how much it would cost. Even with Medicare, the co-pay would be $1,100 a week. Out of the question.

I almost fell off my chair. My friend was crushed.

You don't know a thing about not having hope, or being afraid you won't get care. Really. You don't.

She plays it like a 'get out of jail free' card.

It's beginning to get funny now, like Ryan's lyin'.

Another running joke in my house, everything that happens is Obama's fault. The sink backs up, that's Obama's fault. Mail didn't arrive on time, Obama's fault. No matter what ever happened or ever will happen, it's Obama's fault.

Now she wants a piece of my hardships? It is really all I have left! I cannot stand her. Mrs. O achnowledges her good fortune, and only wants the rest of us to have a fair chance. Annie just does not "get it"

...how he kept working to support his family through that illness.

Can we call this playing the "MS" card? She plays it every time things get tough, as if it's going to make everyone who says something unkind about her or her husband feel bad and take it all back.

If she and Mitt had learned the first thing about having a terrible disease, they would be first in line to make sure every American had the same access to health care as they did!

They propose the opposite, taking away healthcare from those who are protected by Obamacare. They are more and more like Louis and Antoinette every day. I hope images of guillotines haunt their nightmares!

Poor Ann has suffered in silence for years because she couldn't have the priceless 45 carat stone. She tried to buy it but the Smithsonian Institution has said it's not for sale and Ann must resign herself to suffer living with no Hope.

when Michelle's Dad got MS, he got a cane, then crutches then a walker to get to work!

The one thing I have learned dealing with my chronic diseases and those of my kids, is that there is always someone in such bad shape that my problems seem like butterfly kisses! Never complain about how tough you have it, because someone else would love to have your problems!
