(2,657 posts)U.S. House of Representatives Judiciary Committee member Eric Swalwell to Doug Collins:
(undecipherable)..to be someone is telling you..he is not. You're trying to defend the call in so many different ways and he's (Trump) saying, "Guys, it was a perfect call." He's not who you want him to be. And let me tell you how selfish his acts were. And ranking member Collins you can deny this as much as you want. People died in Ukraine at the hands of Russia. In Ukraine, since September 2018, when it was voted on by Congress, it was counting on our support. One year passed and people died...and you may not want to think about that...it may be hard for you to think about that but they died when this selfish President withheld the aid for his own personal gain and I get it, "Obama, he only gave them x, y, z". You know, we've proven the record...that President Obama gave them not only military capabilities, military training, and medical equipment.
So don't, don't tell yourself Ukrainians didn't die...they died. Ambassador Taylor...she said, "These were weapons and assistance that allowed the Ukranian military to deter further incursions by the Russians against Ukranian territory. If that further incursion...further aggression were to take place, more Ukrainians would die." So it is the current effect these weapons provided. But you didn't only hurt Ukraine, Mr. President, by doing this. You *helped* Russia. And to my colleagues who believe we have such an anti-corruption President in the White House, I ask you this, "How many times did this anticorruption President meet with the most corrupt leader in the world--Vladimir Putin? How many times did he talk to him?" Sixteen times, between meetings and phone conversations. And how many conditions did the President put on Vladimir Putin to get such an audience with the most powerful person in the world at the highest office? Zero conditions. That's who you're defending. So keep defending him. We will defend the constitution. our national security, and our elections. I yield back. (sound of gavel hammering)

(16,124 posts)but the guy he was speaking to doesn't care about people dying. He cares about allowing the criminal behavior to continue.

(11,744 posts)At this point I don't think that Democratic members of the House are trying to convince Republicans to be ethical. I do appreciate how Swalwell was looking dead at Collins and sounded both erudite and passionate like he was trying to talk a friend out of doing something stupid. At this point, I think it is more about catching the passerby, the person who is moderately interested but hasn't been paying attention.
Collins looked somewhat uncomfortable but he was doing his best to blow Swalwell's speech off. Collins and his supporters are likely unreachable.

(4,341 posts)Collins is smirking and talking to people while he is being addressed to, but their impoliteness has no limits, he shows his face with a smirk of guilt while trying to pretend he is not listening by turning his face and talking to other idiots of his own party.
Unfortunately, for the most part the republican base is like them, they lack class, morals, manners.

(9,426 posts)See who can be the biggest fool for tRump? Who can lie the most, and cause disruption? If so, it would be a tie between several of them, Collins, Goetz & Jordan. Talk about "arrested development" they act like drunken frat boys, all giggly and pleased with themselves for being total asses.

(6,448 posts)but that respect was not reciprocated. All Repubs are smug asshats that don't belong holding any elected office or making important decisions that affect so many lives.
Deplorable isn't a strong enough word for these reptilian jagoffs. Hmmmm...the Reptilian Party.

(2,697 posts)laughing at the prosecution when he knows the jury (i.e. Republican dominated Senate) has been bought.
"Go ahead, Swalwell," he says by his actions, "point out all the nasty, dirty things Trump has done with our support and acknowledgment. We laugh at your sanctimonious references to America and its so-called 'constitution'; we ignore and chuckle at your feeble attempts to reach the conscience of a political party that, in fact, has no conscience."
May Swalwell's statement be repeated over and over again, in an infinite loop, in the cell Collins will occupy in hell.

(6,448 posts)A lot of my nicknames and catch phrases were born on a local site that doesn't exist anymore. The poor right wing snowflakes couldn't understand that I wasn't a Phil Donahue/Alan Alda-type liberal who could only offer hugs. I was NASTY--and that was during the Dubya years.
The poor site was a local TV station and they lacked the guts to continue.
Back then, Capt. Yossarian was known as Snarknado.
