A federal judge rejected Friday a request to delay a lawsuit against Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross over defiance of congressional subpoenas.
The Democrat-led House Oversight and Reform Committee sued Barr and Ross in November, saying the two cabinet members ignored requests for documents in an investigation of preparations for the 2020 census.
The committee is considering legislation after the U.S. Supreme Court blocked an effort by the Trump administration to add a citizenship question to the upcoming census. The Supreme Court rejected the administration's order in July, and the House voted to hold Barr and Ross in contempt of Congress. Douglas Letter, the House's general counsel, told the U.S. District Court in Washington that the Trump administration asserted executive privilege over thousands of documents, which were subpoenaed in April.
U.S. District Judge Randolph Moss, in a hearing on Friday, said that he recognizes the urgency of the case and will establish an expedited schedule for both sides to brief the court, essentially rejecting the requested delay. He added that he was disturbed by two positions held by the administration -- that it cut off negotiations with Congress after the contempt charges were raised and that Congress has still not investigated the documents in question.

Civil contempt brings the courts into the fight. The law is on our side so that makes it 2 against 1, Legislative & Judicial against Executive. It also makes it a fight between Trump & the rule of law (the courts) which is much less partisan than the spectacle of Democrats (& it would be only Democrats) having someone arrested & thrown in jail (if that could be done, StarfishSaver & others here have explained at length why that's not likely to succeed). That would be a huge gift to RW media & Republicans who would portray it as a purely partisan act by Democrats & use it to whip their their base into a frenzy, increasing the chances of Trump's re-election & hurting our efforts to gain seats in the House & Senate.
NOTHING is more important than voting Trump out of office in 2020. Nothing. Right behind that priority is holding the House & gaining seats in the Senate. We would be fools to do things that would jeopardize those election victories.

A PERFECT MATE FOR TRUMP........
Check out WIKI on Wilbur Ross. He was pulling all kinds of despicable/criminal acts before he ever got appointed Secretary of Commerce by Trump. Then, as SOC he really went wild.....He has worked with Trump for Decades.
It lists, page after page, at the end of the WIKI one thing after another, and documents them for legitimacy...
