(32,094 posts)Ben and Jerry's created a flavor and named it after the SNL skit. There are no actual "Schweddy balls" on the market, other than the ice cream flavor.

(58,713 posts)They call it a channel for women. Seems to me that probably 15% or more of their target audience is probably G/L.
Kind of a silly move to me.
BigmanPigman
(51,629 posts)but now they have 4 months of Christmas shows. They are so conservative they even bleap out words like "damn". I think they want to turn the clock back to the 1950s.

Why in the world they didn't see this coming is mind blowing, but the power of people is great!

(29,676 posts)I have friends who work for Hallmark in KC. It's usually a pretty welcoming place, especially for the lgbt community. That's why the decision to pull the ad surprised me.

(937 posts)The people calling for the the commercial to be taken off buy their wrapping paper at Walmart, their greeting cards at the Dollar Tree and keep their TVs on Faux news all day. Not really their customer base. At Christmas? Peak package, card and ornament time? They felt boycott pain FAST.
cwydro
(51,308 posts)The company that ran the ad was going to pull all its advertising. That hurt.
Then the media backlash hurt as well. They made a wise decision to reverse, but no boycott had any influence on that.
dewsgirl
(14,961 posts)perhaps the threat was enough? Especially when they realized, a Million Moms wasn't actually a large group.

(51,308 posts)Im so glad they reversed course on this.

(32,094 posts)Zola had been a regular advertiser on the Hallmark Channel. They pulled all their other ads, and with them, the revenue. They said they'd never advertise on that channel again. They apologized only to mitigate the hit to their bottom line.

as much as we should have a civic govt to protect out rights, it may very well be that we need to, to paraphrase marx, let the capitalist beg to sell us the rope to hang them with.

(4,168 posts)There's really no excuse for a large company to be winging it on LGBTQ issues. They've had YEARS to form a policy and then stick with it, on either side of the societal divide.
Pulling ads, then changing their minds just makes it glaringly obvious that they're chasing after the largest market segment rather than taking a stand. I'd cancel my sub to Hallmark Channel, only I don't watch that dreck.
dewsgirl
(14,961 posts)even know anyone that watches that channel, anymore, I do shop at their stores however. I think the advertisers didn't cross my mind, because it hasn't really worked with FOX, I'm happy it worked here.

Talk about a nothingburger!
if you get upset about the ads, you really need to evaluate your value system, and consider the meaninglessness of your life.

(89 posts)The boycott never made sense anyway; for one thing, Hallmark has had a line of greeting cards celebrating same-sex unions since before same-sex marriage became the law of the land. They had already shown themselves to be a company that embraced all kinds of unions and families.
Im glad they realized someone in the co. made a bone-headed decision for the network, and that they have apologized and are going to air the ad.

I googled it, its Zola. They got screwed that it took me this long to find out the company behind the ad after all these news stories. All Ive heard is Hallmark.
