Donald Trump is on the verge of becoming just the third U.S. president to be impeached. But his allies couldnt care less about this weeks history-making, legacy-shaping vote.
Instead, theyre singularly focused on the vote that will come on Nov. 3, 2020 and already choreographing an election strategy that capitalizes on impeachment itself.
At the heart of the strategy from the Trump campaign and the GOP is a belief that the more Trump and his allies embrace impeachment framing it as the inevitable outcome of a system run by partisan elites the more voters beyond the presidents base are likely to gravitate toward that message.

Recent impeachment ads run by the Trump campaign have reprised themes of the Kavanaugh confirmation battle, from the language itself (witch hunt) to the assertion that congressional Democratic leaders are trying to brainwash the American People, as one recent Facebook ad declared.
But the president and his allies are also finding new ways to connect with voters who might be turned off by whats unfolding in Washington.
Nearly a half-dozen impeachment-themed apparel items have debuted on the Trump campaigns website since the inquiry began in September, and a person familiar with the planning said more merchandise is expected in the coming months. Text messages imploring Trump supporters to contribute to the presidents impeachment defense fund, or to remind them of the upcoming House vote, have been sent almost nightly since the House Judiciary Committee voted last Friday to advance articles of impeachment against the president.

(56,829 posts)it's not about that - it's about their side getting their voters out and trying to suppress votes on our side.
And, with our side, it's about GOTV - not just the online activists, but the core Democratic groups - African Americans and other non white voters, women - especially single women, union members and college educated voters.

Something of that nature - people will be simply tired of him and his big mouth.

(300 posts)Trump is never happier than when he claims he's innocent and being "picked on," having done nothing wrong. It's all a "witch hunt."
A HERETIC I AM
(24,380 posts)and anyone who thinks it can't happen is fooling themselves.
If he does win another term, we are doomed, plain and simple. And by "we" I don't mean Democrats, I mean this country.
If we have to deal with this asshole for another 4 years, there is no telling what he will do, but one thing is for sure, it won't be pretty.
The only hope for any real accountability is if we are able to keep the house and swing a huge majority in the Senate. Otherwise, if McConnell stays, we're fucked. The planet is fucked. Personal liberties are fucked. LGBTQ rights, environmental laws, any hope for a higher minimum wage, reproductive freedom, gun control, church/state separation, etc. etc. are all fucked.
We will be living under MINORITY rule for a long time to come. If the Republicans are not defeated in November, they will rig it so they can never lose.
Just watch. And get your passport ready.
