Rush Limbaugh attacks Greta Thunberg, suggesting people with autism are not well. Hes wrong and vileby Rex Huppke
It is wise, if you value basic human decency, to ignore Rush Limbaugh.
The ever-outraged right-wing talk radio host has gurgled angrily for decades now, like an aggrieved and sulfurous geyser. His cruelty gives his fans a rush of adrenaline they presumably cant find elsewhere.
For people like me, Limbaugh is white noise in the whitest sense of the word, a patriarchal old man who puts people like himself atop the power structure and wont allow anyone different a woman, a person of color, a person with a disability, an LGBT person inconvenience him in the least.
Its Limbaughs world, you see. Its a world of white, male dominance, a world where people like him dont have to think about the words they use or whether something they say might offend someone.

(3,479 posts)Not so stable people who could start targeting autistic children.

(112,456 posts)so apparently you did read it.

(6,930 posts)For some reason you seem to post a fair amount of similar stuff. I will comment where and when I want.
TexasTowelie
(112,456 posts)so there could be some similarities because of the regional bias. However, I don't believe that anything else that I posted tonight was similar to this OP. If you are comparing this one OP to what I post overall, then I'll agree--I do post similar articles since I believe that other Democrats might be interested in reading that material. I had a career in state government and I've also been homeless so those are topics that I pay attention to when I post.
You are welcome to post where you want since it is a political discussion board and I respect the rights of others to speak (or post) freely. I also think that Limbaugh is a giant turd and would never choose to engage with him. However, I suggest that you keep in mind that even if you aren't interested in the topic that there may be other members who are interested, particularly since it involves Time Magazine's Person of the Year. This article is also of importance to me on a personal level since I have a nephew in his twenties that has severe autism and he will have to be placed in an institution when my older sister and/or her husband are no longer capable of caring for him. Limbaugh's comments are offensive and he deserves to be hung by his petard when appropriate and this situation calls for it.
Finally, please don't call me "dear"--it might be acceptable from an aunt or cousin, but coming from a stranger it is condescending. As a male, I would be rightfully criticized if I addressed a woman (or another man) with that term. I also don't like being called "baby." I tolerated it when my mother used it because I was her youngest child and I'll tolerate the incidental use of it to avoid an argument, but if I'm called either "dear" or "baby" repeatedly by anyone else I will speak up and let that person know that I'm neither their "dear" or their "baby." Thank you in advance for not referring to me with either of those terms.

(17,989 posts)And am dismayed at the publicity given to such trash as !Limbaugh. Not once have I ever listened to that drug addicted, much married man. I Consider him in the same category as Jeffrey Epstein. And Trump, if am being honest.
TexasTowelie
(112,456 posts)then why did you click and read the thread? I'm confused because I thought that the thread was somewhat newsworthy. The article was also anti-Limbaugh. You could have simply skipped the thread and moved onto any of the other threads on DU.

(7,286 posts)You sound just like Limbaugh! Trying to silence people!
And as the author suggests, he should be ignored, except when he crosses the line. The author is defending autistic people, and you say that should not be posted?
The irony and the ignorance are palpable
And I gather just like RL you are not ashamed of your blather and feel your comments are more important than anything
Which again is addressed in the article

(42,862 posts)It's always good to know what our enemies are saying and to be prepared with the "ammo" and facts to debunk and humiliate them. I have "no interest" in listening to him for entertainment purposes either... but the fact remains, he's out there and his big fat mouth is spouting venom and lies. Simply "not listening" to him is not going to silence him. You can't ignore him into oblivion. Instead, I think that OP's like this one help to reveal and expose the stupidity and hate and bigotry. Later when his talking points and lies are repeated somewhere else, the folks who read the Tribune article will be better prepared to debunk and refute.
What's wrong with that? I think we can all agree that intelligence and having knowledge is the best defense to their stupidity.

(15,360 posts)but the thousand or so Hate Radio stations, and the hundred or so colleges and universities that continue to support Limbaugh and his ilk are "off limits".
Those 600 or more impeachment supporting protests ought to be at the business offices of the local stations that broadcast this shit.
I'm pretty sure Hate Radio has done... and continues to do...1,000 times more damage than Hallmark could dream of.

(100,105 posts)Limbaugh would be at or near the top of the list, along with Giuliani, Alex Jones, Newt Gingrich and Donald Trump.

(112,456 posts)However, I'd also include Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson, Glenn Beck, Ann Coulter and Mitch McConnell as nominees. Damn, we might need another bus to fit all of them.

(11,744 posts)The most simple term I use to define what allows right wingers to say such stupid things as what Limbaugh said is "binary thinking". To them everything is 1 or 0, on or off, right or wrong. Autism is a disorder in sensory processing that has a wide range of expression. There are people who are significantly affected by the condition and have difficulty functioning in society, and there are people like Temple Grandin and Bobby Fischer, and all in between. People who need significant support, people who hold down jobs and have family, and people like Bill Gates who are on the spectrum.
Idiots like Limbaugh seek to make their world simple because they are simple minded. They are scared of the complexity that the world actually holds and they fear that they are being challenge to grow. They are angry because they are scared.
