Listening to Mitch McConnell talk about the decline of bipartisanship is like listening to Jeffrey Dahmer complain about the decline of dinner party etiquette.

I certainly hope there is still an avenue for Al back into elected public service, and soon.
And that Roger Stone can witness that return from the confines of his prison cell.

(54,436 posts)The trio of "I Hate Al Franken" posters haven't been active here for a while, but maybe you will have injected a new elixir of life into them with this post, and they will come out of the crypt to tell us once again how deserving he was of being mobbed into resigning.
I, on the other hand, agree with you and the OP.

(14,587 posts)right wing smear job. He's one of our best - as a human being, not just a politician. He's a class act.

(54,436 posts)I got the impression that at least one or two of them was/were someone deeply embittered by some prior personal experience that colored their whole perspective on just about everything. Maybe they had been terribly wronged by some man who got away with whatever he did to them, and therefore, to them, every man accused was automatically a man guilty.
Of course, I just as easily could be completely wrong about that. After all, on DU, we only saw the results, not the cause.
Wiener seemed to me to have serious problems that he never really came to grips with. A totally different situation (about which I could be wrong as well).

(6,448 posts)There was no sympathy for him. He was witty, but not a rock star in the party like Al is. And sending to a teenager with the baby in the background was the nail in his political career. Also, his wife seemed aloof and never got sympathy either.
Unless he cures cancer, he should stay out of the spotlight. His presence can only hurt Democrats. Franken still has a chance for a comeback.

(16,937 posts)this is a phrase you want to use when talking about Anthony Wiener:
"....serious problems he never really came to grips with."

(11,686 posts)Let me get this right. A freak like Mitch and his crony wife are running things. They suck up foreign monies to the demise of America. And, Al is ACCUSED of touching several fully-clothed women below their backs!? To be honest he had thousands of other women to "grab" as they lined up to hug him. What an injustice to us all.

(4,341 posts)Why shouldn't there be, republicans are sent to jail and once they come out they are back on the campaign trail.
Matt Gaetz was in jail for DUI, and there he is, making a fool of himself every time he opens his mouth.
Al Franken is a man with principles, smart and one of the very best senators we have ever had, he most definitely should run for Senate again, we need him.

(115,836 posts)I sure do miss him. No diss on Tina Smith, but Al's one of a kind.
So I have this idea that if Amy Klobuchar gets to be someone's running mate (her nomination is still a long shot) or is appointed to a cabinet position by the new Democratic president, that opens up her senate seat. Since the governor of MN is a Democrat he will appoint a Democrat to replace her - why couldn't that be Al?

Were you, by any chance, at the Paul Wellstone memorial (way back when... )? Al Franken was there, and the best part of the night was knowing that Al was dedicated to preserving Wellstone's seat.
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,836 posts)when I was phone-banking for Mondale, who stepped in to run against Norm Coleman right after Wellstone died. Al turned up at this dingey little office where there were a bunch of sad people making phone calls, and he gave us a whole lot of moral support.
scarletwoman
(31,893 posts)I was a state delegate that year, so I was involved in the emergency meeting to vote for Mondale to run in place of Wellstone.
Thank you for being a phone banker for Mondale! We all tried so hard, it was an awful time...
The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,836 posts)who has been unjustly underrated. One of the worst people during those days was the woman who was some big shot in the state GOP going on the radio/tv and saying the most awful things about Wellstone and the memorial. Sarah something, I think, can't remember her last name. She was just nasty, reminded me of some modern-day GOPers.

(31,893 posts)It still hurts to think about it.
I went to the memorial with another DUer (he disappeared from DU many years ago), and he and I left feeling so uplifted and energized - it was an amazing event, so full of genuine love and light and healing, along with the shared grieving of our communal loss.
I have never been so shocked and utterly appalled at how the right wing so thoroughly twisted and trashed this beautiful, transcendent shared experience.
Even now, it's honestly almost too much to bear, bringing up those memories...
It REALLY pisses me off that Franken got ratfucked!!!!

(1,204 posts)Whatever Al Franken did is now past. He's done his penance....voluntarily.
Now let's bring him back because his voice is needed.
I wouldn't mind him being VP, either.
