If the speaker wants to hold on to them, thats fine with us, the Republican Senate leader said.
Earlier, McConnell scoffed at the notion that Democrats could gain leverage by delaying the transmittal of the articles and told reporters that he is not anxious to hold a Senate trial.
Its beyond me how the Speaker and Democratic Leader in the Senate think withholding the articles of impeachment and not sending them over gives them leverage, McConnell told reporters in a hallway of the Capitol. Frankly, Im not anxious to have the trial. If [Pelosi] thinks her case is so weak she doesnt want to send it over, throw me into that brier patch.
Mitch is a joke and he's scrambling to save face.

(14,572 posts)The House did what it had to do under bizarrely difficult circumstances, but we saw a mild uptick in support for impeachment before it flatlined and retraced a bit.
They need to get it off the plate, and frankly WAY to easy to give the Rs the frame they are throwing around on it right now.
McConnell is going to be a douchebag about it nothing to be done.

Personally, I think we should make the Senate Repubs actually vote to acquit so they can't claim later, when even more and more comes clear that Trump did, that they NEVER would have left him in office. But Pelosi always seems to know what she's doing.

(10,039 posts)When this idea was floated I didn't understand why McConnell would care. I still don't and actually think it helps (R)s foment rage with thier supports and fatigue among everyone else as an Impeachment trial inches closer and close to the 20' election.

(36,341 posts)We may have more hearings adding to the evidence for Articles 1 & 2 and possibly other articles. There's also the on going investigation into Rudy and his associates. A quick trial with a very likely acquittal now puts this into the history books. Leaving it open keeps it in the news.
backscatter712
(26,355 posts)What Pelosi did was to hang this impeachment on Mitch's doorstep like a dead opossum. The longer Mitch resists allowing a fair process to try the impeachment, the worse the stench will get.
And then all Pelosi and the House Dems have to do is keep investigating. They can always add more articles of impeachment...
