As we live through this time of division and hate...

...understanding the importance of identity cannot be underestimated

You know what they say - When the sun rises, it rises for everyone – however, over and above the earth needing sunshine to keep operating, the consequences of sunshine differs, depending on who you are and where you live. Some get sun burned, some tan, some will get skin cancer cause of sunbathing, some will experience drought cause the sun is so hot, some will have to run from bush fires etc et al. Each of these issues needs a different strategy to cope with the impact of the sun… just buying everyone factor 50 is not going to fix these majority of these diverse issues.

To provide 21st Century solutions for most of our communities, we cannot just be rooted in a policy of raising the standards of living on a collective basis, this is a 20th Century solution within a 21st Century construct. In this context economic theories as the cure-all for society's problems do not go far enough, raising everyone’s living standards is of course a really good plan, and it is part of the solution, but society is far more complex than that, and these one size fits all economic policies do not go far enough.

The idea of raising everyone living standards magically making misogyny, racism, homophobia, and the plethora of other bigotries, we witness every day, reduce, is a bollocks. There are deep-rooted systemic problems which need a multifaceted approach if there is any hope for society becoming a 21st Century place to hang out, after all a homophobe or a racist is not going to change their views ‘cause they are more economically secure. I can much pretty much guarantee they will just be pissed that the ‘gay’ man, or the ‘underserving’ poor, or the POC is getting taxpayers cash alongside them... heh. And so, these ingrained issues need to be addressed effectively.

Recognising identity matters more than ever right now. Just sayin'.
