We Are Not Prepared For Deep Fake Videos - Patrick Maloney

We are going to have videos of people saying things they never said that look real. They are called deep fakes. Computer generated fake videos of real people.

What the hell can we do?

after the War of the Worlds broadcast in the 30s?

I certainly remember back in the 60s and 70s concern about computers replacing people.

Don't trip.

We are already skeptical of individual pictures ... photoshop is understood by most.

Now the same skepticism will need to be applied to videos. And the MSM will need to be careful of their sources, just as they've learned to be careful (or not) of stills.

Oh, and we as consumers need to turn off entertainment that has "news" in the title but does not live up to journalistic standards.

Wish us all good luck on that last point.

Mostly with the idiots who already believe everything FOX spews. They are already gone beyond aid anyway. I do think young people today have grown up not believing everything they see on the internet and elsewhere, so that’s good. They are more cautious than I used to be a more tech savvy than I still am.
