I think Nancy is in the driver's seat.

No matter what McConnel and the repugs decide to do regarding the Senate trial, I think Nancy probably wins either way

-- If McConnel allows witnesses and documents, it will look like he caved. And the repug senators will appear to be ignoring the evidence when they vote to acquit trump.

-- But the repugs will also look bad if they conduct a short coverup sham trial.

So Nancy and the democrats probably win either way.

But even so, she should hold out and let trump stew until at least after the SOTU speech.

SOTU will be off the rails crazy. Pretty sure that is why she invited him. So the world can see the crazy. His rallies don't get nearly enough attention and they are straight up insane. Hopefully he'll let his freak flag fly again at the SOTU.

the Repubs will take away his Aderall to keep him from having a hyper energized, manic, rant fest and he will go into massive withdrawal right there at the podium.

Just remember, front and center, right in front of him, he will have the Republicans best and last ditch enablers, the SCOTUS Trump cheerleading squad.......

Don't forget to count on Mr. I Like Beer, or Gorsuch, the proud son of the woman who had to resign from the Reagan cabinet for being cornered about corruption stuff with the EPA superfund cleanup money.......

Those two, (along with all the normal Republican gang, in the Supreme Court,) have an extra special need to give Trump a token of gratitude, by giving him anything he requests, constitution be damned.....

"You lie!" outburst during Obama address

On September 9, 2009, during a joint address to congress by President Barack Obama which was nationally televised, Joe Wilson shouted "You lie!"[37][38][39][40] Obama was outlining his proposal for reforming health care and said: "There are also those who claim that our reform effort will insure illegal immigrants. This, too, is false—the reforms I'm proposing would not apply to those who are here illegally."[41]

Obama's chief of staff Rahm Emanuel immediately approached senior Republican lawmakers and asked them to identify the heckler and urge him to apologize immediately.[42] Members of Congress from both parties condemned the outburst. "Totally disrespectful", said Senator John McCain (R-Arizona) of Wilson's utterance. "No place for it in that setting or any other and he should apologize immediately."

of McCain, but the Republicans no longer have a statesman to keep them somewhat civil and in line like he did these past years before his death......

He's too far gone in the head to do anything else, surely?

You can lead a Trump to a teleprompter, but you can't make him follow a sane script without going off at a tangent!
(Anyway, he can't read, and can't see the big letters on the teleprompter.)

& there's no reason to think anything has changed in that regard. At this point, I don't see a down side for dems & Pelosi. If she sends articles to the Senate, we all know it will not be a trial based on democratic ideals like facts & witnesses. So it seems to me that she might as well try to get something out of McConnell before she does that. Plus nothing will happen in the Senate for a couple of weeks anyway since they're on a break.
