"SNIP......
The gap between the two parties was never more evident than in the floor speeches Wednesday night on the articles of impeachment. The parties operate not only in different ideological universes but also on entirely different intellectual levels.
In the best speeches of their respective careers, House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (D-Md.) and House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam B. Schiff (D-Calif.) spoke with dignity, precision and quiet confidence. Their speeches incorporated facts into logical arguments, interwove historical references and were peppered with sardonic humor.
Hoyers most stinging admonitions were reserved for his Republican colleagues:
These votes we are about to take and the process that will follow in the Senate are not only an assessment of the presidents commitment to the Constitution or to his oath of office. It is, as well, a test of our own. Damning evidence of the presidents high crimes has emerged. Nevertheless, Republican members of this House and of the Senate have continued to defend a president whose actions and statements are indefensible.
All of us feel a sense of loyalty to party. Its what makes our two-party system function. Its what helps hold presidents and majorities accountable. But party loyalty must have its limits. And as evidence of the presidents impeachable offenses has mounted, it has become increasingly clear that the limits of partisanship have been reached and passed.

(27,451 posts)Look at all the lunatics theyve put in office over the years, not just recently. How long has Gohmert been in Congress? Steve King? Marcia Blackburn went from dumber than a box of rocks Congresswoman to Senator. The list is long and Ive got presents to wrap.

(21,639 posts)For as dense and bestial as they (often) are, they still enjoy the support of Big Business.
That means billions with which to buy everything from a barrage of ads, to media outlets, politicians, and of course judges.

(523 posts)Trump will now campaign against the Democrats in the House who voted to impeach him (nearly all the Democrats there) and all the Senate Democrats up for re-election who vote to remove him. It presently appears that the Republican majority in the Senate will save Trump (at least enough to prevent the votes to convict from adding up to two-thirds), so he will remain in office, claiming his acquittal (even by the skin of his teeth) as vindication.
A serious risk that Trump will be re-elected in November and an equal risk that he will incite the voters against the Democrats who voted against him.
Lock him up.
(6,933 posts)made the mistake of voting for him 3 years ago voted for Dems in the midterms because the orange menace said it was a referendum on HIM and to vote for HIM and his "greatest accomplishments of all time"
See where that got him?
Sure, he can MAYBE get the EC again in a few battleground states, so let's work tirelessly to register new young voters there who should make the difference. No complacency!
