He believed he was in charge when Harry Reid was the Majority Leader.

He pledged on Obama's Inauguration Day to thwart every bill and proposal put forward by the President, not to mention he pledged to make Obama a "one-term president."

McConnell is the Gingrich equivalent in the Senate, if not more power hungry.
