I have not been following the story very closely though I know that he was accused of multiple acts of violence including murder, and ended up being found guilty for posing with a corpse. The Navy wanted to take his pin and reduce his rank so that he would no longer be considered an operations chief, which is where Trump intervened and led to Richard Spencer's departure as Chief of the Navy.
My questions for those who are more in the know... Is Gallagher still a Seal? Is he still considered to be in operations?
I am wondering because of the New York Times piece where the information from his subordinates and colleagues came out where they are calling him a psycho and "toxic". I would imagine that no other Seal would want to work with someone like that, though that could be a very big ASSumption on my part given some of the military culture these days.

(9,462 posts)and found guilty of posing with a corpse (he actually had his reenlistment ceremony over it, gag). After that is completed he can or will be subject to a hearing about keeping his Trident (SEAL signifier). It was when the Navy wanted to put him before a board about his Trident that Trump really started to freak out.

(11,744 posts)It is odd to think that having a criminal conviction would not automatically lose you your status. I know that in the regular service there have been waivers for criminal conduct, but we are talking about the elite forces.

(11,744 posts)Like I said, I haven't been following this story super close.
I am sure the the decision to "retire" was assisted by the idea of having to go back into an environment where people know you are a deranged asshat.
