General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThe consensus of the locals here in rural Indiana...
1. Obama was a pussy for not taking Soleimani out years ago.
2. DJT is strong and brave.
3. The tail-wagging-the-dog scenario is not even on the radar.
4. A friend has a daughter being deployed. Scared shitless, but God has this. Even if her daughter comes back in a body bag, my friend will still be a trumper. It will be the Democrats fault.
5. Jesus.
6. 'Murca!
I am surrounded on all sides by authoritarian followers with absolutely no critical thinking skills or self-awareness.

Polls are starting to look really bad for Obama. Looks like he'll have to start a war or major conflict to win. Don't put it past him!

Don't let Obama play the Iran card in order to start a war in order to get elected--be careful Republicans!

For what it is worth, I am in Indiana, and have friends and relatives in various parts of south central Indiana. And none hold the views from the OP. But, we are not the majority - but we are a growing presence. (in Bloomington, Columbus and Franklin), and the next generation who were raised here but now live in Boston, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Indianapolis and Boise, also do not adhere to the sentiments expressed.

Everyone from her family has left Indiana. They claim it became too "redneck" for them in a place they'd lived there entire lives..
When rednecks start thinking that somewhere is "too redneck", things are bad.

(5,801 posts)Even C-Plus Augustus (thanks to the great Charlie Pierce for that nickname) knew better--Soleimani was on his radar, too, but he knew better than to take him out.
Did the yokels even know Soleimani's name a week ago? Of course not. Now they are foreign policy experts.

Whoever is Prez will do wrong whether they kill people like Soleimani, or do nothing and work toward unattainable peace. Obama got criticized for strikes and for doing nothing.
Leave, before Iraq changes their mind again.

It wouldn't be very smart to assassinate one of Iran's top leaders during that time.

(12,712 posts)Is like the instructions for how you end a democracy quickly and become a Fascist country in no time.
And the thing is, I bet those people who espouse those views have any idea what the implications of their biases and ideas are. Not even a clue. Yet, it is so obvious if one knows more about how this country was founded and what has happened in Europe in the aftermath of that kind thinking they have.
Just a few jumps and leaps from that mindset and you are in Orwell's 1984 and you will blame who Big Brother tells you is to blame, for the moment.

(70,516 posts)We now have generations who have grown up with family, friends, and Christian Fundamentalist
bigotry but their warped views have been reinforced by hate talk radio, Fox News, internet garbage,
and pure crap from their pastors without getting any reality. People like Fox News because it makes
the viewer feel good about their views on the world.
In early October of 2019 I drove from Columbus, OH to Fayetteville, W.V. and for long stretches on
just the car radio I got country music, Jesus, and hate talk from the likes of Sebastian Gorka just
spreading lies.
It is not just in rural Indiana too. I have a customer who told me that Hillary Clinton had somebody
killed in order to hide Bill's cocaine ring.

(6,189 posts)Sat and watched. In most cases without so much as a peep of resistance.
We may have already crossed the point of no return. Hopefully not.
But our leaders in Congress need to get off their a$$es and not give up any more ground. No compromising with RW that just laugh at our willingness to hand over and accept changes without a fight.
The apparent willingness to fight back of some of our newest ["The SQUAD"] Congress members is encouraging.

libraries, parks, postal service, and the pushing of right wing memes on basic cable and we a huge

The one thing we have going for us is population demographics and America only has so many
