Trump spars with House panel, threatens Iraq and Iran

President Donald Trump on Sunday tweeted that his social media posts “serve as notification” to Congress that the U.S. will retaliate against any attack from Iran — and the House Foreign Affairs Committee wasn’t having it.

“These Media Posts will serve as notification to the United States Congress that should Iran strike any U.S. person or target, the United States will quickly & fully strike back, & perhaps in a disproportionate manner,” Trump wrote. “Such legal notice is not required, but is given nevertheless!”

The House Foreign Affairs Committee, which is chaired by New York Democrat Eliot Engel, responded on Twitter: “This Media Post will serve as a reminder that war powers reside in the Congress under the United States Constitution. And that you should read the War Powers Act. And that you’re not a dictator.”

The Twitter exchange came the same day that Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One that he had the presidential authority to act against Iran as he saw fit — and also threatened Iraq with sanctions if the country was hostile to him. The president also said Iraq would need to pay the United States back before the U.S. could even think of leaving: “We have a very extraordinarily expensive air base that’s there. It cost billions of dollars to build. Long before my time. We’re not leaving unless they pay us back for it.“

about the possibility that he's an accomplice to war crimes by knowingly allowing his social media network be the vehicle for war crimes. This is somewhat like the owner of a car rental company knowingly renting to people who use the cars to extort merchants. Twitter is privately owned, and any crimes committed on Twitter with Dorsey's knowledge should mean that Dorsey approves of Trump's crimes, which are violations of Twitter's TOS.
