1. How does this help the Democratic Party?

Kennedy should have moved to a district that he could play in, and win. Stupid politics.

There is no district. Are people supposed to sit around and wait until someone dies in office? The people of MA will choose what is best for them.

in the Senate

Kennedy is a bit left of center in the Democratic caucus

This would be a move rightward if Kennedy won.

Most progressive senator, according to "progressive punch"

3. Kennedy is in a difficult position, as to whether to do this or wait.

He's 39 now, Markey is 73. By the time they'd take office, 40/74. And by the time of the next run, 46/80, all the while others are moving on elsewhere. I'm sure the Kennedys have talked this through endlessly. At the very least Kennedy positions himself for 6 years time and Markey gets a good overhaul during the Primary. After his SOTU rebuttal, I thought Joe would kick on, but he's largely stayed out of the spotlight since.

One thing, the DNC threatened campaign strategists etc, of those working for people challenging incumbents, have they done so here ?

Markey is toast in the primary. Kennedy will be the next senator from Massachusetts. Markey might can try to run for governor in 2022.

6. I know he's decided to run. My point was that waiting for 6/7 more years while others were moving on

wouldn't do his political career any good.

Cause I disagree but I’m not there.

Did spend some time there though and maintained connections. I’m curious, are you in the state?

12. Why not run for governor in a few years?

Despite Obama winning in 2008, Senator is not the normal best way to become president - Bush & Clinton were governors before becoming president, Bush Sr was VP and Reagan was a governor.

...even though I live in NH. And since I live in NH, I'll let my neighbors to the south decide who they want as their next senator.

We need to win the White House, win the Senate and hold the House. Burning cash in a safe Senate seat is idiotic.
