It wont just end with Iraq. U.S. has several bases in different countries across the Middle East. Iraqi PM is expected to formally tell the U.S. to get out.
Now consider the bases in Jordan, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar and others. These are prime targets for retaliation. Do these countries want to get caught up as a proxy between the U.S. and Iran? Do they want targets on their back? They may not like Iran but this conflict they have no part in.
This forced ejection wont end with Iraq. And the troops being forced out of the Middle East will be exactly what Iran (as well as Russia) want. And they dont have to fire a shot to do it. They can apply political pressure and the mere threat of retaliation against these targets to get it.
This will make the negotiated withdrawal from Vietnam look like a diplomatic masterpiece in comparison.
Trump took the bait. And American National Security Interest is the price.
When we are out of the Middle East, Russia and likely China will be asked to assist these countries in establishing stable regimes.
This is a disaster for the US. Israel should be in full on panic mode now.
