The State of The Union....Televise or Cancel?

Given that Donald Trump has declared the that Twitter is his communication arm rather than gong to Congress, should Speaker Nancy Pelosi CANCEL the State of The Union address before the joint members of Congress?

I say she should. Spare the country of the indignity of having to sit through this farce by an Orange pile of shit LYING before the world....Submit it in writing.

Especially if the Senate trial is still in progress. I want to see him decompensate on live TV.

The Constitution directs the president to report to Congress. Explain your proposal in that light.

Secondly, there’s a weird component of Congressional procedure that states that the president must be invited to speak before Congress. I guess it’s possible that if the Speaker doesn’t invite Trump, there could be an issue.

Do you really think Speaker Pelosi would pass up a chance for Trump to melt down in front if the entire world?!

It was done in writing until Woodrow Wilson became president. Even so, Pelosi has already invited him and I very much doubt that she would rescind her invitation.

She can't cancel the SOTU... and it would certainly be televised if he does one.

All Pelosi can do is forbid him to use the House chamber for the event.

history must record, to the fullest extent possible, the declining faculties of a vicious authoritarian leader and crumbling institutions of the nation which put him at its head. our responsibility is no longer to ourselves or our immediate progeny, we've already tossed all that out the window of ruin onto the trash heap of deep regrets. now if we must posit a less-worse-case scenario, that some version of humanity and biosphere will indeed survive into the 22nd century, then that is where our true responsibility lies, and the first step to any responsible hand-off is proper documentation.

Sure, Pelosi could rescind the invite she sent Trump to give his SOTU speech in the House chamber. (Hint: there is zero chance she would do that).

But even if pigs started flying and Pelosi withdrew the invite, Trump could and almost certainly would announce that he will give his SOTU speech at some arena filled with thousands of his adoring faithful. And it will be shown on all the networks and will draw big ratings. Indeed, he probably wishes that Pelosi would give him that opportunity by withdrawing the invite.

Which is why I can't figure out why DUers are voting "no televised" SOTU.

Then Democrats can show the world that DFT does nothing but lie and insult people.

Either that, Madame Speaker should tell agent orange that petty insults will not be tolerated. She could halt the speech to tell him that the State of the Union has nothing to do with nasty women or lyin' <insert name here>. Public embarrassment is a powerful tool to use against hair furor.

Because he's reading a speech someone else wrote that he's never read. He'll give it and we won't watch because it's not really him talking.
