I tried. Really, I did. McConnell was speaking from the floor of the Senate, and I sat back and turned up the volume to listen. I lasted for almost two minutes before his toxic fulminations forced the mute button.
Now, its no secret that I am among those for whom the Trump presidency is a tragedy with alarming fatal possibilities. That said, Ive worked hard to hold to the principle of hating his actions rather than his person; he hasnt made it easy. So, I confess I detest, despise, loathe, abhor, and hate everything about him, rapidly losing any boundary between principle and person. And that confession is offered only as a baseline, because my sentiments toward McConnell far exceed what I feel toward Trump.

(5,106 posts)Sometimes he's failed (such as making Obama a one term president: he had to settle for doing everything he could to thwart him). No need for Turtle to lie when he can be BLATANT about it. I still can't believe he actually bragged about "throwing" the Senate impeachment trial to Trump and thumbed his nose at the Constitution. He's been drunk with power for far too long and is the single biggest argument for term limits for Congress members. I'd bet that he is hated nationally even more than Trump, the more time he keeps his control over our government.

Best gift I got last month was a donation (in my honor) to her campaign. I will follow through on that gift as soon as I pay off some holiday bills.

(28,799 posts)he's more dangerous than trump ultimately, because he has the power to rid us of trump and won't do it, because of the Courts, and because when he talks he doesn't sound like the fucking psychopath he absolutely must be. he sounds lucid. the way he says outrageous things and utters outlandish lies makes him seem reasonable.
he is a dangerous man, and a disgusting example of a human being.

(38,436 posts)...McConnell created that utter disgust and hatred, when he refused to allow a vote on Obama's Supreme Court pick. Like Trump he created it himself. It is deep and very ugly. McConnell is quoted as wanting to destroy Obama and his presidency from the beginning. That is it, and that is all.

(761 posts)and mine and a lot of others. That makes it hard to realize how we can exist on the same planet as his supporters. As bad as Trump is that is how he was made. The people that support him have made a conscience decision to do so in spite of all the information pointing out his misogynistic racist dictatorial tendencies. Granted he lied his way into the presidency with lots of good paying jobs make America Great Again and healthcare that will be denied to nobody. But his reality is totally opposite and it really begs the question: what can make so many people support him.

(3,282 posts)As long as he's getting what he wants, he's going to keep going. If Trump's voted out, he'll continue to obstruct as he did with Obama. He rushed dozens and dozens of judge nominations through when he knew he could get his friends from the Federalist Society on the bench, and withheld nominations for years under Obama until there was a shortage and a crisis. This is all in addition to his blatant theft of Merrick Garland's seat on the SCOTUS.
He's super rich, insanely powerful, completely out of touch with any constituency that doesn't include other extremely wealthy and powerful people like himself. He will actively harm the poor, women, POC, LGBTQ+, and immigrants, because none of those people even exist in any meaningful way for him. They're (we're) an abstraction. He will suppress votes, gerrymander, lie, cheat, block Senate votes, obstruct, whatever he thinks he needs to do to give his party the tiniest edge. Not even because he believes in the party, but because it will keep him in power.
