Heavy traffic backup on Coronado Bridge due to increased security at Navy base

https://fox5sandiego.com/2020/01/06/watch-live-heavy-traffic-backup-on-coronado-bridge/

CORONADO, Calif. — Traffic was backed up on the Coronado Bridge Monday morning, due to heightened security checks at the Navy base entries.

<snip>

Some military bases in San Diego County have heightened security and warned of increased entry gate delays, according to base Twitter posts.

The measures follow rising tensions in the Middle East after an American drone killed a top Iranian general, although there is no mention in the Twitter posts linking the heightened security to mounting hostilities. Base officials were unavailable for comment.

<not much more>

But I thought we were so much safer now!

This is just the latest excuse for piss poor traffic management, both in the city and on the base.

Only took me maybe two more minutes today to get to the base I work on, and the traffic is almost as horrendous; we might not have a carrier and couple air wings stationed here, but there are still significantly more than a couple thousand government, military, and contractors on a narrow road trying to get to work between 0630 and 0830 every workday.

At least there are 3 lanes each way on Coronado.

I'm in the Sacramento region, and all weekend there were black military copters flying over the area. We have two former military bases here too. I googled the type of helicopter I saw, and it looked like this:
