The number two Republican in the Senate, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) sent a strong signal on Monday that McConnell doesnt have the votes to prevent witnesses.
Sen. Cornyn told reporters:
Igor Bobic

Cornyn: When the time comes, if 51 senators want to hear from Ambassador Bolton, I think thats fine. It doesnt have to be live, it could be a deposition...my guess this could help the president

Cornyn didnt say that he would support subpoenaing Bolton:
Igor Bobic

Replying to @igorbobic
BUT Cornyn didnt say whether he would ultimately support a motion to subpoena Bolton.
Im not for the Senate turning into a circus like the House. I would worry that would be a beginning and not the end of the other witnesses they would want to drag through here

Sen. Cornyn referenced the trapdoor that Bolton has opened by offering to testify. If Republicans cant stop Bolton from testifying, they also wont be able to stop Democrats from subpoenaing administration witnesses to testify.

(16,254 posts)He is making a fool of himself by blocking everything the Democrats need to do to finish the impeachment. I don't think he's scared of Schumer, but Pelosi keeps all these characters at bay and they don't know how to handle her. McConnell is "brave" when he's at the podium, but he's the typical bully...wimps out when confronted in person. If anyone can confront him, it's Pelosi. Go, girl!
These people know what is expected of them.

(14,768 posts)Sure, "if" 51 republicans vote to subpoena him, which won't happen unless mitch wants it to. They won't lose a single vote; they might let a few vulnerable senators cast opposing votes, but every vote will come down the way mitch calls them.
The thought that some republican senators will force anything is a myth. They won't. They have been assimilated. Resistance is an act.
This comment means nothing. He is trying to make it look like he is being reasonable.
The only way bolton is allowed to testify is if his testimony has been cooked the way mitch likes it. Which is why he needs to testify in the house first. He could just lie his ass off and go back to work at the wh.

(16,111 posts)have signaled that they are on board, who else would break with Moscow Mitch. Maybe, Mittens, but probably not, he's really good at talking about things and then doing as he's told.
