He's a smart guy - for him to parrot Haley is extremely disappointing.

What a shame. When he comes on TV, I can't help but to blurt "just the facts, ma'am" (he reminds me of Jack Webb ).

Was it Deserved?
Was it Wise?
Was it Legal?

Commentary like this seems to miss the fact that the answer to #1 can be yes while still having serious concerns about the other 2.

Dems are thinking of the consequences of conflict with Iran, which will be much bigger and complicated than Iraq with much less support from our allies.

Once you separate the individual targeted from the methods, you see the moral outcry.

This isnt how obl was dealt with. Its not how saddam was dealt with. This wasnt a shooting war and it wasnt an enemy combatent (it is a stretch to say someone traveling at an airport is in combat).

It was a cowards plan. It was illegal.

The tears arent for an iranian asshat. They are for our dignity.

WE can oppose Trump's abuse of power without expressing ourselves in a way that can be seen as sympathetic to Iran.

Iran is a bad actor. We know this. Trump did destroy what we had achieved in seeking a way to live with them, but their continued support for Assad, and terrorist militias throughout the region remained a problem. And Solemaini WAS coordinating and supplying terrorist efforts against the US and allies. If anyone deserved a hellfire missile in the ear, it's him.

BUT.... that's doesn't mean it was wise, or legal to kill him.

In opposing Trump on this, we must avoid ANYTHING that can be interpreted as "poor Iran".

I diod not say they ARE "poor Iran." I'm saying they can be twisted to read that way. For example, I think those who say that the killing was "unjustified" can be twisted to be saying that Soleimani wasn't a piece of shit, which he most assuredly was.

But there is a difference between someone "deserving" death, and it being legal to make them so. We need to focus on the fact that assassinating a foreign official is a big step to take and possibly illegal. Not on the attack being somehow "unjustified."

But if folks wanna get all defensive, you can watch where it will go....
