Here we go, again. Another ice "event" in the forecast

Of course, every site I check seems to have a different forecast, and things could drastically change (hopefully for the better) in the next 24 hours. None the less, I'm stocked up with batteries, candles, flashlights, peanut butter, cans of tuna, bread, water, caramel corn (comfort food) and a bag of limes to go with the gin and tonic "emergency" supplies.

I will say that my storm PTSD, while triggering, isn't nearly as bad as last year, when we were under the threat of an ice storm. I credit my daily dosing with CBD for helping to control the anxiety. So, as long as the electricity is connected, my freak out posts, tomorrow night, will be slightly mitigated.

In 2013 I lost power for a week, due to an ice storm, and ended up with carbon monoxide poisoning. Long story about the old generator being in a good location until the wind shifted and blew everything back into the house. Lesson learned, that's for sure!

My biggest concern is keeping the sump hole from flooding the basement. I have a back up battery system but that only works for so long.

If you're going to use a generator, keep it as far away from your house as you safely can. Which reminds me... I have to mix up some 50:1 before this shite-storm starts.

It's not going to be cold. We should have several inches of snow on the ground here. Instead we are going to see record rainfall and freezing rain.

Back in early November I think we got about 6" and it didn't stay on the ground, for that long. (I'm in mid-Michigan)

On the up side, it's better this storm is bringing rain. If this much moisture was falling as snow, we'd be buried!

and the ground is already saturated. There's no good news with this storm.

I just went to check, and it's as empty as I've ever seen it. I know that will change, once the deluge starts. I also went out and cleared off the storm sewer grates and pulled the leaves up from the street gutter so that we don't get a back up of water that could, potentially, turn the street corner into a skating rink.

Apartment living was much easier!

If the really cold temps don't hit until towards the end of the precip, things might be not as bad as I fear. We aren't forecast for quite that much ice, and I've come to realize the weather forecasters always enhance the worst case scenario, so that is what people are prepared for. The down side is, it can start to become a 'chicken little' scenario and people stop taking them seriously.

The funny thing with the 2013 ice storm, that knocked out power for a week, was that in my area the power didn't go out until HOURS after the storm ended.

When it comes to forecasts, I tend to stick to local outlets. They've been showing all models and discounting the outliers (1" of ice).

around 4 but looks maybe earlier if the temps keep dropping like they have and the rain continues, and it will. We are also looking at several hours of freezing rain, sleet and snow with many hours of blowing snow for the next few days. Our ice will not be as bad as yours I don't think but the temps are different and switching a bit every time I look. It isn't going to be good, I will likely miss 2 rehearsals and a concert and working auditions because that will all be cancelled . Good luck up there. We went out and got cat food but we are stocked up and ready for it if it actually happens.
